    SMB connection resetting

This is occurring on an i5 NUC running Windows 8.1 update 1 with all the latest service packs.

I cannot reliably connect to SMB shares over my LAN. However, from another desktop system running the same OS I can. The working system is not an Intel NUC.

What that means in practice is that if I try to access the SMB shares through File Explorer it may or may not work. Then, it'll suddenly start working. Then it'll suddenly fail to connect (by not working and fail to connect I mean I get network path not found errors). Similar things happen when my backup application (ShadowProtect) tries to access the SMB shares. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. When it does work it doesn't work for long.

I'm working with Microsoft tech support on the problem. According to them, the netmon trace report shows that the NUC is resetting the network connection. I'm not sure what that means, but apparently it's not a good thing so far as connectivity is concerned.

I tried downgrading to the generic Microsoft network adapter drivers, but the problem still persists.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how do I resolve it?
