The Edison uses uboot, and Debian has been ported to it. I assume it should be possible to boot Android, but I wouldn't know what would be required to port Android to it.
Ok, thank you very much for your information, so, is the uboot used the official stable branch or a forked one by intel?
Starting your answer, I think that not so much work would be needed to port AOSP on Edison except for drivers and if the AOSP do not support x86 instruction set.
But once again, I may be completely wrong on this topic as I still doesn't received my board to be able to test it.
I have no idea if the where the Edison uboot comes from. You should be able to find the source in the Edison source tarball in the downloads section.
