I have a 2 year old who is fascinated by the moon. Good Night Moon, Moon Moon Moon, going out every night right before bed to find the moon. As the weather doesn't always permit him to see the moon, I decided to bring the moon to him and build a moon nightlight. As this project progresses it will also serve as a sensor platform for monitoring enivronmental conditions in his room. An IoT night light.
Inspired by the Sunfish
1x Intel Galileo
Wire wrap wire - 30ga solid core
The night light in its box.
Looks simple enough.
Cover taken off. 6 diffused white LEDs control the moon phases. NeoPixels will be a bit of an upgrade
Might have to remove the battery compartment.
The LED's soldering is holding the circuit board on.
Let's desolder those.
An IR remote controlled board with 6 states could come in handy for another project.
Print out a mount for the Galileo.
Yep. Need to remove the battery compartment.
NeoPixels will fit just fine.
Battery compartment removed.
Drill out holes for the mount and hot glue it to the back side.
Bolted in and wired up.
Initial test looks good. Might need better diffusion.
