    USB Game Controller

I recently received my Galileo Gen 2 board, and I'm trying to program it (or find some compatible software) that will allow a USB game controller to interact with the board. Ultimately, I'd like to use the controller to generate a C-script string. But, first, I need to solve how to decode my three-axis, 12 button usb controller. Any tips to point me in the right direction?

I've downloaded multiple libraries, usb descriptors, & joystick examples and tried to see how to manipulate the inputs to use the usb controller, but haven't been successful. I've been mainly using the Arduino-Galileo ide, as I wish to avoid diving into the linux programming, if that's possible.
