Problems - Intel XTU Version: 5.1.0.23

    intel_OC

We have a number of Intel Extreme processors  . . .  overclocked with Intel's XTU.

From our experience, overclocking with this utility provides clear advantages versus overclocking processors using the PC BIOS.

One advantage is the ability to cascade multipliers across active cores.

Another advantage is achievement of lower processor voltages.

Recently, we attempted to upgraded from XTU version 4.4.0.4 to version 5.1.0.23.

Our PC running an Intel i7-4960x runs smoothly with the latest XTU version 5.1.0.23.

This processor overclocks beautifully with 5.1.0.23.

Our PC's running Intel i7-990x's overclock superbly with XTU version 4.4.0.4.

However, they consistently blue screen with version 5.1.0.23.

Within a second of attempting to open XTU  . . .   these PC's blue screen, and XTU never successfully opens.

Has anyone successfully overclocked an Intel i7-990x with XTU version 5.1.0.23  ?? ?

Intel_OC, thanks for reporting this information at Intel communities.

I am going to check if the XTU 5.1 will be supported on older processors or only on 4th generation processors.

Once I received the information, I will notify you.

In the mean time, please try doing the following:

          • Install the latest BIOS version available
          • Install the chipset driver again
          • Install the latest ME driver available (Management engine)

Intel_OC, I received the information from the engineers confirming that XTU 5.1 won’t be supported on older processors. It works on 4th generation processors.

Therefore, my recommendation for you is to continue using the older XTU version.

              Sylvia,

              Thank you  . . .

              I tried your suggestions :

In the mean time, please try doing the following:

              • Install the latest BIOS version available
              • Install the chipset driver again
              • Install the latest ME driver available (Management engine

              . . .  and reinstalled XTU 5.1.023

The results were DISASTEROUS !! !

When the computer was restarted, XTU executed and immediately locked computer, and within seconds OS crashed with BSOD.

It was necessary to use MS Windows application disk to perform System Restore from optical drive, and hose XTU 5.1.023.

I could not boot computer and run System Restore from SSD.

              Again   . . . Installing XTU 5.1.023 on a i7-990x is a DIASTEROUS NIGHTMARE !! !

              If You don't believe that  . . .  give it a TRY.

I suggest Intel DOCUMENT this consequence !!! !

              Thank You Sincerely,

              Ken
