Let me help you with this.
It is important to mention that updates include fixes for some issues so when there is a new update it does not necessarily mean you computer needs it but try the following steps to update the software:
- Update the computer BIOS to latest.
- Run all windows updates. We have found that they are releasing many fixes for BT issues.
- Uninstall the current driver and download the latest here:
Thanks! But how I update my BIOS to the latest one? I think I have the latest version.
I have a notebook, Lenovo Y510P.
I'm having exactly the same issue. I can't update the BT driver to anything higher than 17.0.1405.0464. There must be something faulty with the installation package.
I'm having the same problem. I also can not use any Bluetooth features such as a2dp or streaming with this intel Bluetooth as I did with my old Dell 1703 card.
I hope intel is going to fix this problem. Tech support was very nasty and actually hung up on me when I brought it to their attention.
Same problem as OP
Installed a new 7260 w/ BT
Used intel web site to automatically install drivers
wifi works fine
BT works only using fsquirt nothing shows up in "my computer"
when I check for intel updates it says there's a new update try to install and get choice to repair or remove
I choose repair it installs then bsod with KERNAL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
reboot - uninstall bt driver update -reboot - reinstall update
when I check for intel updates it says there's a new update again
Thank you for sharing all this information.
I am going to research about this issue and I will be back with more information soon.
So I checked for new Windows 8.1 x64 updates yesterday (I check for updates almost every single day, so this one came yesterday) and it installed this one:
Intel - WLAN CSB - Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260
Installation date: 8/21/2014 16:41
Installation status: Succeeded
Update type: Optional
Intel WLAN CSB software update released in July, 2014
Help and Support:
I've done the Intel Driver Update Utility scan, and now it does not detect that I have an old Bluetooth driver. It's funny because I still have installed the driver 17.0.1428.1 for Bluetooth, and the driver 184.108.40.206 for the Intel Wireless-N 7260.
OK, I've downloaded again the very latest driver version for Bluetooth and Intel Wireless-N 7260:
Bluetooth 17.1.1406.01 x64:
Intel Wireless-N 7260 17.0.6 x64: (drivers only)
I've installed both and restarted. This is what I have:
Version I download and install: 17.1.1406.01
Version Device Manager detects: 17.0.1428.1
Version Intel Driver Update Utility detects: 17.0.1401.0428
Version I download and install: 17.0.6
Version Device Manager detects: 220.127.116.11
Version Intel Driver Update Utility detects: 18.104.22.168
What the hell?
PD: now Intel Driver Update Utility says I'm using the current driver version in both Bluetooth and Wireless-N 7260. So the problem is solved after that Windows Update I've posted in the previous message. BUT I see the that there should be at least 2 warnings, cause none of the 2 drivers are up to date according to Device Manager.
Could you please provide screenshot of Control Panel | Uninstall Programs screen. You may have sort by name so I can see all the Intel products installed.
Please uninstall "Intel PROSet/Wireless Software For Bluetooth..." entry and perform cold boot.
Or better, (if anything goes wrong with the above step) you may want to uninstall both Intel Bluetooth entries, cold boot (shutdown /p) and then re-install Bluetooth 17.1.1406.01.
I've uninstalled the 2 Bluetooth programs, reboot, re-installed the latest version, and everything is the same. BUT now I can't send archives via Bluetooth to my laptop. I can send from laptop to mobile, but not viceversa. This happened to me weeks ago. The cause is that there's a service/program named Btmshellex that should start up with Windows, and now there's no such a program in the Start Up Tab in Task Manager. How can I fix it?
