Intel Driver stops working during video playback...

Hi all,

I have recently upgraded my HTPC from an AMD 905e to an i3-4360, and it is not usable any more as an HTPC: when I am watching any video, the driver crashes, windows 8.1 restarts the driver, and the player just freezes or crashes. This happens in any video, with any player. I have tried windows media player, media player classic HD & XBMC.

The main board is an H97M-G43 from MSI. I have contacted MSI, but anything they asked me to do didn't resolve the issue.

I have reinstalled windows, I have updated the BIOS, I have used drivers from intel site & their site (even the beta one), I have reseted the bios by shorting the board pins and run the system with BIOS defaults, nothing helped. The entries in the event log are:

"Το πρόγραμμα οδήγησης οθόνης igfx σταμάτησε να ανταποκρίνεται και ανακτήθηκε με επιτυχία."

(Rough translation: The display driver igfx stopped responding and was successfully recovered.)

Is there a solution to this?

I am using driver 10.18.10.3621, on windows 8.1 pro 64 bit.

Thanks for joining the Graphics community.

I am sorry to hear that have had problems with the Intel Graphics Driver.

This problem has been reported previously and several troubleshooting tips are available at the link below:

You could try forcing the installation of Intel generic drivers by performing manual procedure, see here for instructions:

http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm

Download the zip version of the video driver:

Dear Alan,

Thank you very much for the reply. I have tried everything on the list, and the problem still remains, the driver crashes during video playback:

Locate and install the latest graphics driver from your computer or motherboard manufacturer.

Done, didn't change anything.

Find and install the latest generic version of the Intel® Graphics Driver.

Done, didn't change anything.

Update the Microsoft* .NET Framework software on your computer

I had hopes this could be a solution, so I updated to 4.5.2. But the problem still remains.

Ensure that your Microsoft* operating system is up to date

All updates installed.

Does the issue occur frequently or is it a random issue?

I have observed the crashes of the driver only during video playback.

When was the last time the system worked without errors? What changes were made since this time, such as driver updates, adding hardware, or installing software?

Never, the problems started immediately when I upgraded my pc to MSI H97-G43 & i3 4360.

Do you have the latest system BIOS for your computer?

Yes.

Does the issue happen when your monitor is set to a particular setting?

No, it happens in all frequencies (23p, 50p, 60p). The resolution is fixed, as I have connected the pc to a full HD TV, through HDMI.

I am out of ideas on what to try next. MSI (the mainboard manufacturer) suggested to change the PSU, but this is an expensive change (I have a corsair one, 550W, pro series with 7 years of guarantee).

I just tried driver 10.18.10.3643, just released by MSI for my mainboard. I had a hope it would resolve my issue. But again igfx stopped responding at about 1.5 min after I started video playback...

How this can be debugged?
