Did you created the recipe and added it to image when you started building it? Did you follow the steps indicated in the “Create recipe for the image” in this post http://www.malinov.com/Home/sergey-s-blog/intelgalileo-buildinglinuximage ? Maybe that is why is not adding those files into the build.
I did exactly as specified and added all the features as written in the link. Did you guys get these by default in your yocto-full builds or is it expected not to have these software. Just in case I added IMAGE_INSTALL += "mplayer2" into the image-sdk.bb but ended getting errors asking for dependencies.
It's not included by default for sure, neither vlc nor mplayer.
Now, the way to include them is to add them to IMAGE_INSTALL, like you did, in some recipe. Then bitbake would try to first build the package and then include it into the image after that.
Dependencies may be a problem, yes. The only way to tackle that is to solve them one by one, so feel free to post specific errors you get.
Just note that both of these programs are intended to be primarily used on systems with a GUI, so they have dependencies on X stuff, which is not enabled or built by default for Galileo and therefore it may be hard to make it work. But we can definitely try
It's not available in the official or my image at the moment. It has quite a few X and Gnome library dependencies, which may be hard to resolve, but I can definitely try. It would take some time though, as I'm currently occupied by another project, so anyone else willing to give it a shot is definitely welcome.
