HD4600 clone cursor in top left corner when activating quicksync

I'm trying to use quicksync with obs (open broadcast software). But whenever i go to screen settings (through right click on the desktop) and detect monitors, select monitor on hd4600, select try to connect to vga anyway & lastly, extend desktop. I get a secondary cursor in the top left corner which doesn't move, but changes state with the main cursor.

The main gfx is a gtx770 & hd4600 is only for quicksync.

I've tried almost every solution i've been able to find.

One suggest installing an older driver version, another reinstalling nvidia drivers.

I've tried earlier release, latest release & beta release & after installing and rebooting the nvidia driver would fail and recover. I'd then clean reinstall the nvidia drivers as suggested by one. But it does not help. Every time i change from "show on desktop 1" to "extend desktop" i'll get the clone cursor, but only in extended mode, which is needed for quicksync to work, so it's not an option not to use extended desktop.

I've noticed there's quite a few with this problem on the obs forum, this forum and other forums as well.

win7x64

Any suggestions ?

Hi nicolaj, I understand you are getting a secondary cursor which does not move, while using extended desktop. I have some questions about your setup:

  • Is the name of the application Open Broadcaster Software?
  • Does the issue only happen when running such application?
  • What type of monitors, cables or adapters are being used?
  • Are both monitors connected to Intel® HD Graphics? Does the issue happen that way? Which one is causing the issue?
  • Can you provide more details, such as processor and motherboard model?

Hey Joe. Yes, obs = open broadcaster software.

It is not related to any applications besides "screen settings"

Using a 22" samsung led via dvi.

Nothing is connected to intel gfx.

Asus sabertooth z87 & i5-4670k

Hope that helps you, even if just a little.

So, in this case the issue is related to the gtx770. Furthermore, Intel® Quick Sync Video will not work when a third party graphics adapter is being used.

Why would it be related to my gtx770 ?

A quick search on google reveals plenty of other threads with the same problem, it seems like it's an intel driver issue from what i can understand, the driver fails to understand there's 2 display adapters and adds a second cursor. For most people this does not happen, but in some cases it does. Seems to be unrelated to nvida/amd & sli/crossfire.

Looks like it'll work just fine with third party adapters. https://mirillis.com/en/products/tutorials/action-tutorial-intel-quick-sync-setup_for_desktops.html Intel Quick Sync Video Just one of many guides from programs that has quicksync support.

Does it work when the monitor is directly connected to the motherboard's video port/Intel® HD Graphics?

Are you thinking about setting up the 770 as the secondary adapter ?

I have not tried that as that would make the 4600 the primary render which we wouldn't want as it'll be good for nothing.

@ nicolaj, Do you still see the issue if you set the Advanced Settings of OBS to use Nvidia NVENC?

Thanks

Robert

Yes, settings in obs has no effect on the second cursor as long as the 4600 is enabled with extended desktop.

@ nicolaj, Thanks for checking the NVENC setting. With it enabled QuickSync is not being used by OBS. A couple of questions:

1. Does the issue occur when only one monitor is being used?

2. Does the issue occur when 2 displays are setup as Dual Display Clone?

3. Where did you download the OBS software you are using and what version is it?

Thanks

Robert

No problem.

We don't need to have focus on obs imo. The cloned cursor is present from the moment i extend the desktop & even if obs is closed, just mentioned that i wanted to use quicksync with obs as to void questions about why i wanted to enable it when i have a 770. So this has nothing to do with obs.

Yes, i only have 1 monitor.

I don't know, i do not have the option to clone the display, i only have extend, show on desktop 1 & 2 & remove.

I downloaded it from their website, the latest version 0.625b.

Thanks for the information I will make sure this information is visible for our investigation department. In the meantime, I know it sounds a very basic step and maybe silly but can you try updating BIOS, graphics drivers for both cards and running Windows Updates?

@ nicolaj, To switch to Clone Displays, right click on desktop, click Graphics Options, click Output To, click Clone Displays, then click the display configuration you want.

Thanks

Bios is already up to date, and so are the drivers for both card, as mentioned for the intel card i've tried 3 different drivers. Atm the latest is installed. As for nvidia i tried both the latest & beta drivers, but the nvidia card does not seem to have any influence as noticed from other thread with similar problems where people have different brands, models, driver versions & amd/nvidia.

I do not have that option.

Those are the same as yours, except "output to" and i have "bubble notifications" where you do not.

Just in case you're not entirely sure how it looks, i had to capture it with my phone as "print screen" doesn't capture my cursor.

@ nicolaj, Just to make sure I understand, you have a single display connected via DVI to the Nvidia GTX 770 and nothing connected to the motherboard DP or HDMI port, correct?

Thanks

@nicolaj, OK, when the display is connected directly to the Nvidia graphics adapter, you will only have the Nvidia hardware function and features enabled. Quicksync will not function through the Nvidia adapter. Quicksync is a Intel HD Graphics driver and hardware feature and you will need to connect your display to the HDMI or DP connection on the motherboard to use Quicksync.

Additionally, when using an add on graphics adapter such as Nvidia, you mush install the Intel HD Graphics driver first and then install the Nvidia drivers. Also, you must set the Intel HD Graphics as Primary Graphics Adapter in the system BIOS.

Thanks

If that was true that quicksync wouldn't work in any way with a third party card, without the monitor being connected to the intel adapter & the intel adapter being the primary render. Then please explain the following 3 examples.

1.

As you'll notice that here both drivers, hardware and feature programs are both loaded and working with the nvidia card as the primary adapter.

2. http://youtu.be/idhkZy-tMTU OBS Game Streaming Performance Boost with Intel Quicksync - YouTube

3. https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/intel-quick-sync-is-beautiful-and-the-future-of-streaming.7597/ https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/intel-quick-sync-is-beautiful-and-the-future-of-streaming.7597/

& on top of that, in 2013 twitch announced a partnership with intel to optimize compatibility with quicksync. Considering twitch is for gamers, that announcement also suggests that people streaming using quicksync would be using a different primary adapter as the intel HD adapters wouldn't be powerful enough to run any 3D game at a respectable performance while doing x264 encoding.

I'd be more than happy to agree with you if it wasn't for the overwhelming evidence suggesting the opposite to be true.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. I tried the OBS with quicksync yesterday and it works fine without connecting any device to the mainboard iGPU slots.

I'm using HD6950 with i5-3570k and I use 3monitors and I have activated 4th monitor for IQS in windows 8.1. My problem was that I got a clone of my cursor in the left corner, but I fixed that just removing the 4th monitor a couple of times and creating it again then suddenly the duplicated cursor was removed and everything works as it should. I even tried to reinstall graphics drivers for both intel and amd graphics cards. Heck I even tried to reinstall mouse drivers!

Here is a tutorial video for the process to activate the monitor for IQS and settings for the OBS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mU-Fy61H3w Intel Quick sync Video ~ OBS ~ STREAMERS DREAM ~ Free .mp4 Encoder - YouTube
