HD Graphics 4600 HDMI 5.1 Sound Output to TV.

So I have a home theater setup basically I am trying to pass 5.1 surround sound from my pc to my receiver.

My setup is:

[PC]===HDMI=== [TV] ===OPTICAL===[RECEIVER] === [Speakers]

PC info:

Asus n550jv

Windows 8.1 64-bit

Intel Core i7-4700HQ

8GB RAM

Intel HD Graphics 4600

NVIDIA GeForce 750M

TV info: Vizio E420i-b0 Smart TV

Receiver info: Sony STR-K750P

The problem I am having is my PC will only recognize the HDMI connection with stereo sound.[pic]

My first thought was that the tv could only accept signal in 2 channels.

I did some research on my specific model and discovered that it DOES indeed support full surround HDMI pass-through. I confirmed this by talking to a vizio customer support rep who tried to help me with my problem. She said that it was a problem with my display driver(Intel Display Audio), leading me here.

How do I get my pc to recognize my sound system?

Thanks for joining the graphics community.

I understand you are trying to get audio through HDMI.

Intel offers generic video drivers containing HDMI codec, perhaps, that is exactly what you're missing to connect your HDMI sound system.

Please try the link below for updated graphics drivers:

Since you are using a switchable graphics computer, you may need to test if graphics drivers are causing this problem.

I recommend removing any Intel graphics and Nvidia driver from Windows Control Panel.

Download the latest drivers: File name: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24596/a08/win64_153614.exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=24596 win64_153614.exe

Nvidia drivers here: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N750JK/HelpDesk_Download/ Notebooks & Ultrabooks - N750JK - ASUS

Re install the drivers.

Additionally, please make sure you are using high quality HDMI 1.4 cables

Thanks for replying.

Tried everything, new drivers, drivers you suggested, high quality Sony cable, and no success.

I would recommend contacting Asus for possible BIOS update or check ports on your computer.

Contacted with Asus but no success.

They said that notebook don't support surround sound, is that possible?

"Mobile Intel® HM86 Chipset has Integrated audio support, enables premium digital surround sound and delivers

advanced features, such as multiple audio streams and jack re-tasking."

Surround sound is available on Intel® HD Graphics 4600, see this link https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics Quick Reference Guide for Intel® Core™ Processor Graphics | Intel® Developer Zone

It all depends on how the system has been integrated by your computer manufacturer.

Thank you Allan,

I know that surround sound is available on Intel HD 4600, that was what I told them, the ASUS support, but they replied whit this:

"The specification for the sound is as below and I can find no process in those specs that support 5.1

Built-in 4 Speakers And Digital Array Microphone

Bang & Olufsen ICEpower®

SonicMaster

Asus N series external sub-woofer support

MaxxAudio support"

My questions are:

1. Can be this fixed by new bios?

2. How to find out, how the system has been integrated by computer manufacturer?

Thank you.

There are some issues that can be fixed through BIOS update; however, since this is an Asus motherboard, my recommendation still is to contact Asus for more information.

At this stage, only Asus would be familiar with the total configuration of your integrated system and the way all the features interact with each other.
