NUC D54250WYKH Firewire via Mini-PCI Express Slot...

    PlumJob

I have a legacy audio headphone amplifier that has a Firewire 400 connection, i was wondering if it was possible to use this on my D54250WYKH via the Mini-PCI Express Slot?

Here is an eBay listing for such an adapter:

      Startech.com 3 Port 2b 1a 1394 Mini PCI Express FireWire Car | eBay

I think it will fit ok in the slot (i don't have anything in those slots). Because of the bulk of the cable i would not be able to fit the case back on properly, and i would have the firewire plate sticking out as well. It's ugly but i could live with it.

The real issue is to do with the LP4 power supply connector. Is there anywhere on the D54250WYKH board that could power the card? It comes with a LP4 to Molex connector, if there is no way to power it from the board is there any (cheap) way i can provide power to the card externally?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Based on the adapter information it seems the method to power it is with the molex connector and I regret to say this NUC does not have this type of connection.

In regards your compatibility question, it is important to say that since this device has Firewire connection there is a chance it may work with the adapter but we cannot guarantee it because we do not recommend adapters. This is because adapters can interfere with the connection and signals.
