    DX58SO will not boot  i7-990x

    Melindamarsh2001

      Gulftown i7-990X

      SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100365L
      Radeon R9 270 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card With BOOST & OC

      1 stick - 2GB 1066MHz DDR3-1066, PC3-8500, 240p
      DIMM, 1.5v, CL=7

      Intel DX58SO board

      630 watt power supply

      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot get the board to boot with RAM in any slot.

I get the 3 beep error code and no display on the monitor.

Even without the graphics card I still get the 3 beep code of RAM error.

The person I bought the board from said it was new never opened.

I have tried multiple sticks of RAM with the same issue.

What is the issue with the board and what can I do to get it to boot up?

          Hi Melindamarsh2001,

I am sorry you are having problems with the unit but let me help you.

Here you can do some troubleshooting steps. Try the following:

          1. Test the system without any other devices connected. Minimum configuration is just 1 HDD 1 Stick of RAM, no audio or video cards.
          2. Take the motherboard outside of the chassis. If possible put it on a wood surface.
          3. Test different RAM (brand and model) If possible.
          4. if possible test the unit with a different processor.

            Kevin

Thanks for giving me some things to test.

            • Test the system without any other devices connected. Minimum configuration is just 1 HDD 1 Stick of RAM, no audio or video cards.
              • Just did this and got the 3 beep code
            • Take the motherboard outside of the chassis. If possible put it on a wood surface.
              • Just did this and got the 3 beep code (only RAM and power supply and CPU cooling fan plugged in at this point.)
            • Test different RAM (brand and model) If possible.
              • I have tried 4 different RAM brands and speeds (DDR3 still). All have given me the 3 beep code.
            • if possible test the unit with a different processor.
              • This is an old processor (i7-990x) and only the LGA1366 fits this board. It is difficult to get another one. Could the processor be the issue?

These are unused but 5 year old parts is it possible they degrade over time (the processor and the motherboard)? How would I be able to tell/test this?

              Thanks for the information.

Based on the steps done, I would say it may be the motherboard; however, 3 beeps mean a memory error.

I say this could be the motherboard because you have tested many RAM types. The best step to know what the problem is would be testing other components. You can either test the processor in another motherboard or test other processor with your current motherboard.

I completely understand that is hard to get those products for testing purposes but the other way may be contacting your local support to get warranty in the products.
