Scaling and Custom Resolutions Celeron J1900

    Octo

I have a Celeron J1900 based PC and I am trying to get the HD Graphics set up and have encountered some problems.

My TV has a Philips 21:9 widescreen format that requires a lower resolution (1920 x 960 'ish) input from the PC to avoid over scanning and losing the start menus etc.

Having installed Win8.1 (update) and all the latest drivers and windows updates I still can't access the custom resolution options for the intel HD drivers.

The control panel looks massively crippled and the scaling option is just missing the slider altogether.

I have also tried using the standalone utility CustomModeApp.exe and CustomModeAppv2.exe which just refuse to start.

I also tried a utility from "Clever Technologies" to inject a custom resolution into the Registry but can't select it from the driver.

I have installed a number of driver versions (removing and deleting all previous drivers first) all with the same outcome.

I see a lot of similar but different issues in the Forum but no solution to this particular issue of not being able to see the scaling slider or running the utility.

Any suggestions on how to create a 1920 x 960 resolution?

          Hello Octo,

I am sorry you are having problems but let m help you.

Based on the information you have provided there are some steps I want you to try:

          1. Try running CustomModeApp as administrator and create the resolution.
          2. To avoid the over Scanning, search for the option on the TV and disable overScan from the TV.
          3. Scaling option will be available on your graphics controller depending on the screen resolution

I also recommend you updating the BIOS from the Computer Manufacture as another step.

            Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the prompt response.

            • Try running CustomModeApp as administrator and create the resolution.

Running the app elevated has the same effect of not showing up - have you seen this issue on W8.1 before?

            • To avoid the over Scanning, search for the option on the TV and disable overScan from the TV.

Unfortunately this option is not available. Before replacing my PC with Bay Trail I had an Nvidia card that I could just type in a resolution of 1080 x 960 and it would fit the full screen perfectly.

            • Scaling option will be available on your graphics controller depending on the screen resolution.

I have tried reducing the resolution and the scaling option is still not showing.

            • I also recommend you updating the BIOS from the Computer Manufacture as another step.

I have tried all the Bios's available (one from just last month) is there any separate Vbios available from Intel?

            Regards

              Yups

Probably the same issue I asked in the Beta thread. Copy and paste:

And a question in general, how can I apply my custom resolution from the CustomModeApp. I don't see a button nor is my custom resolution available through the windows resolution list. Here a screenshot: http://s7.directupload.net/images/140523/eaxkns7u.png

What I have to do in order to use my custom resolution 1800x1000? I can add more custom resolutions or remove them but I don't see how I can use it.

There is no apply button, not sure how it should be used. It seems you have the same issue. I have no idea what Intel is doing here, the custom resolution thing worked flawlessly in the old control panel. Also the scaling option is nonsense, it is greyed out or not available when using the native resolution. AMD did the same, they fixed this nonsense in Catalyst 14.6. Intel should do the same.

For me it's even worse the Advanced tab is the most basic I have ever seen and the basic is worthless - I am hoping that this isn't intended and is an error with the current run of drivers.

                Regards

                  Hi,

After much frustration and testing drivers I decided to start hacking drivers.

I now have the resolution I required, it's tricky on a 64bit PC because of the driver security (Hash checking) but there are ways to disable this in order to install your hacked driver.

Really this should be in and working in the drivers.

If anyone is interested I can post some tips.

                  Regards

I just registered for the problem: When I want to play a game at -say- 720p, I have to (1) change my desktop resolution to 720p and (2) go to the Intel control panel to activate scaling. After playing I have to (3) manually switch back to 1080p.

                    This is crazy!

This is what I meant, it's pure nonsense. AMD did the same but now with Catalyst 14.6 they finally fixed it. Regarding custom resolution via a modded monitor edid I think it should work or maybe via regedit modding. Intels Resolution app should do the same, obviously it doesn't work and nobody from Intel is able to give an answer why it doesn't. It worked fine with the old control panel!!!

Is there a Intel engineer here who can tell us if it's been worked on? Otherwise I need to send it back as DOA.

Now I got it, the custom resolution is created in the control panel-->http://s14.directupload.net/images/140604/8noxi8h3.png

                          It works for me now.

edit: available through the windows resolution list as well. Maybe it requires a restart because it didn't work when I tried this last time.

I have that too, but the scaling option is only available if I select someting lower than 1080p. The settings get's lost when 1080p is used.

Therefore, when going from the desktop (1080p) to a game (say 720p), scaling is not enabled..

I know. Only when a non-native resolution is used. Clearly nonsense. At least I can use a custom resolution.

I have the same problem. I am trying to run an embedded PC with the E3845 processor and windows 8.1 Industry Pro. The CustomModeApp process starts and closes right after this. No crash, no report in the windows log file. I am trying to run a x64 Windows with adaptable graphics since the D2550 processor. How is it possible this problem still presists and there is no way to get a custom resolution running on ANY atom processor using 64 Bit?

Running in compatibility mode or as administrator doesnt change anything.

Can some def comment on when this issue will be fixed?

                                  Hi nanouser,

You can try our latest graphics driver but I am afraid to say that the support for your Operating System is provided by the OEM only. They can design and set limitations that we cannot change. You can try our latest driver but in case it fails you need to contact the Computer Manufacture.
