I foolishly tried to apply these 2 updates and have since had errors igdkmd64.sys

I have a simple system with no graphics card

an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 with Intel Core i5-3470 CPU at 3.2 GHz and 16 GB memory

but using Intel Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller with Intel Rapid Storage to provide RAID 5

System is Microsoft windows 8.1 with all updates that do not cause crashes.

shows Display Adaptor graphics driver as 9.17.10.2932 12/12/2012

now getting BSODs at inconvenient times;<).

Had not expected any problems with Intel updates on an Intel machine.

Had to re-store to earlier point so now being offered the Intel updates again and the Microsoft updates for Internet Explorer

Installing any of the updates seems to result in a BSOD as if it has not truly undone the updates.

How can I diagnose the problem?

What is the fix?

I'm sorry for the inconvenience DaveS.

I was able to see on your post that you are trying to install an updated provided by Microsoft. The issue when installing a Windows updated is that it replace the Intel drivers.

Since you are using an ASRock motherboard, I would recommend you to contact this company and download the latest drivers available.

Please uninstall the previous driver version, restart the system and then install the latest one.

I tried what you suggested without success. Interestingly when the driver was uninstalled I still got the error. I went through the sequence a few times without it working. Using safeboot from msconfig I was able to do the installation/removal re-installation and disable. I could not make the changes without safeboot as it crashed before I could make the changes using Device Manager. Currently I have the driver installed but disabled. Doing that enables one VGA monitor to work with low resolution and the system to be stable. The second monitor has no signal. If the driver is not installed I get errors. I still do not know if the problem is with a Microsoft update or the intel graphics driver.

Is it just my PC or do others have the same problem?

Any other suggestions to get the second monitor working?

DaveS, have you tried to do a System restore to last working state? If not, I would recommend you to do it.

There is also an application that is called Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool. You can run this application and it will diagnose the processor components and will generate a result. I suggest you running this in to discard any possible issues with the processor (hardware).

You can get this from the following link:

If operating system is 32 bit based: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19791&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2032-bit*&DownloadType=Utilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examples Download Center

If operating system is 64 bit based: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19792&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Utilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examples Download Center

Sylvia,

I tried to do a system restore several times. After it went back past the restore that was made before the update, when it was working correctly and it was still giving the same error I did not go further.

I ran the Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool. It gets as far as the cache test but seems to stall there with the green line all the way to the right. FSB and QSI tests show as not supported all others until that cache test show as pass. Does that mean there is a cache test inside the processor?

Please advise.

DaveS, could you try installing the previous graphics drivers?

I recommend you to uninstall the current ones, and then reboot the system so you can install the previous driver version available.

Have been surviving with a single VGA monitor until I could find time to work on this. So far it has taken over 30 hours working on it without success.

I looked in the drivers log and find that until 2014-05-11 the driver was 9.17.10.2932.

It is now 10.18.10.3304.

The option to roll back the driver is greyed out.

why does the name show as igdlh64.inf_amd64_665.......................................... Why amd should it be intel?

Have not found the old driver on AsRocks site. Can you provide a link to where I can download it?

Dave

Your processor comes with Intel® HD Graphics 2500. This is the list of drivers we have available for that model https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=3rd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+2500&ProdId=3711&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=3rd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+2500&ProdId=3711&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39

Remember that our drivers are generic drivers and they are made for Intel Motherboards, but you can try them. I suggest you to check with ASRock if they have another driver version you can try.

Would you please send me a DirectX diagnostic report? Please click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.

Dave, according to the DXdiag you sent me, no error was found on it. Everything seems to be working as expected.

However, since you are getting an error even when trying to run DXdiag, it could be a register situation. There can be a corrupt file on your system. Please check the following URL provide by Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/173518/en http://support.microsoft.com/kb/173518/en

You did not answer my previous question:

If I un-check the cache test everything else passes.

Does it mean I have a bad processor?

Please advise.

I'm sorry Dave for not answering your previous post.

Regarding the processor diagnostic tool, we assume the processor is not defective when it passed the test without errors. In your case it did not pass it, therefore I recommend you contacting our customer support department for additional information on replacing your product if it is still under warranty.

Replacing the processor did not effect the problem with the graphics.

Since then I had a drive in my RAID fail. The instructions on how to install intel RAID are fairly clear but info on how to replace a drive is virtually non-existent. I went to great lengths to make multiple backups before replacing the drive. It actually was quite simple but I had found nothing to tell me how or what to expect.

One odd effect is that the drive number changed so that it did not boot to the correct drive. The BIOS is supposed to let you set the boot drive when pressing f2 to start but the RAID did not show since it only shows the first 4 drives and I have more. I found that instead pressing F11 brought up the full list of drives so I could get it to start, but every-time had to manually press F11 I eventually found a document from microsoft explaining that this can happen. Of course they acknowledge the problem but have not fixed it. I had to swap SATA connectors to make it swap correctly.

I did a sfc /scannow to check system files. It found some errors it could not fix.

I followed that by

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restore health that successfully replaced corrupt system files.

image version is 6.3.9600.17031

A that point I tried re-enabling the Intel Graphics driver and immediately got the same error as before. I applied the latest update

Disc Management showed the version as 10.18.10.3496

but in driver details it shows as 10.19.10.3412

Why are they not the same number?

I tried refresh but it says the drive is locked also since I had win 8.0 upgraded to win8.1 I do not have the install disk to re-install without going to win 8.0 and then updating again - another consumer unfriendly Microsoft behaviour

Any other ideas?

Would you please check the following URL? It Include possible steps and graphics report generated within graphics control panel http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009476.htm Graphics — Intel® Graphics Driver Report

I also found the following article related to some Errors Reported by Microsoft and its possible solutions. http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009483.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009483.htm

I tried what Microsoft suggested - updating to Net 4.5 - but I already had it

They also suggested installing the intel drivers from the Motherboard manufacturers site

and/or the generic ones from Intel.

I have tried both and they cause the BSOD

To get the Intel Graphics Report you seem to need the Intel Graphics package to be running. If it was running I would probably not have this problem.

Is there another way to get the graphics report?

Daves, I was able to get some information from the DXDiag you sent a few days ago.

Please check with ASUS if there is newer BIOS that you can flash on your motherboard.

If the issue persists, I really think it will be necessary to reinstall the operating system.

We have computers running the same graphics driver and we are not experiencing any type of issues with it.

Sylvia,

I had already applied the BIOS update (from AsRock not ASUS).

Since this problem was not progressing I installed a graphics card and set that as the source. I now have 2 monitors.

If I find time, will remove the graphics card and see if the internal graphics installs correctly.
