Hello. I am still having the same issues with Thief as before the beta, and during the beta. I have the latest update for the game, tried all the tips suggested in the beta feedback thread and still have the flashing low res textures
the above is with high texture quality
the above here is on low texture setting and the cabinet and wood around the bench are low quality
some times when I move a bit it does pop in the proper texture resolution
but as you can see I am still getting the blacked out parts.
In the beta thread someone mentioned going in the ThiefEngine.ini file and changing DynamicLighting=True to False and yes that did eliminate the black out but with out dynamic lighting the game looks and feels awful. Can't tell where light and shadows differ as it all looks the same and some objects that can be interacted with look almost black light windows that need to be lifted open and certain dark corners are to dark to differentiate anything. All screenshots were taken after installing the above 64 bit driver and the latest patch for the game. I also start the game in pre-set low setting from the launcher and then increase the settings in-game. I also play with the 64-bit version as for me it seems to have less issues and I have Automatically Limit Texture Quality set to OFF.
I am using:
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit
System Manufacturer: Acer
System Model: Aspire V3-571
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Hope this is helpful, and hope there is a fix soon. Thanks for the effort Intel!
Even this Intel HD Graphics 4000 showed useless to me. I tried each and every update of drivers, which you people provided. But from day 1, when I purchased this PC with DH61H0 motherboard, with Intel i3 3210 processor, with windows 7 64bit graphic card drivers are not working. (This problem continues with Windows XP, Windows8, Windows8.1)
My system show weird bars all over the screen, when the system restarts after install HD Graphics drivers. These bars appear after the "Windows7 is Starting Now" screen. Here is how it looks after installing it.
This screen works normally only after uninstalling graphic drivers in "Safe mode"
Of couse, my PC works normally but, it says "The Videocard installed on this computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements" or "Your hardware acceleration is either disabled or not working properly" whenever I am trying to use programs like windows movie maker, etc.
I tried even updating my BIOS, but even it proved useless.
Hope, so you people might provide some solution or simply I have put this waste motherboard into dustbin and purchase some other company's motherboard.
I am sorry, this might be hurting you... But, I got vexed with your Intel HD Graphic drivers. I have used many PC intel boards earlier since nearly 15 years or s0 (Right from Pentium Pro) but never faced such problem.
Even if you cant provide solution, then just simply say me to purchase some other motherboard (from some X manufacturer) I will do that.
Hey Jibpsy , we have the exact same cpu/gpu setup so we should be able to have the same results and I haven't personally noticed the low res textures at all since the latest game patch. Side note- I DID once but never again after opening Thief again for the first time after patching and running the benchmark, the posters to the left of the menu had blurred out again after being able to see them at first. Does that happen to you by chance? (Just wondering if its maybe the benchmark somehow causing a glitch). I also started a new game if that matters i dont know.
PC settings wise, what is your actual page file size aka VRAM allocated amount (not positive thats the correct terminology), because I have heard that this number could be set to 2-3x your physical memory amount if looking for extra gaming performance. From factory mine was actually set to LESS than what even windows was saying is recommended in that same window so its definitely should be checked and would be related for sure. Also, before opening the game what is your physical memory usage at in task manager before opening the game with all other programs/ browsers closed.
My Thief game settings and opening method are: 32bit mode (i feel this is a must for proper performance with our minimum gpu/cpu), all settings to low, automatically limit texture quality to ON but off works too (probably because of my large page file size), all extras like tesselation etc unchecked as well, 1280x720res, double buffer Vsync.
Probook 4540s with Intel HD 4000 and amd 7650M
Intel i5-3230M CPU 2.60hz ram 4gb x64
win 8.1 Pro
No code 43 on switchable mode Off(Bios) but Control Panel don't start.
Code 43 on switchable mode On. Control Panel and CCC don't start.
I need to know if somebody is working on these kind of issues. Notebooks win 8.1 hd4000 and
discrete gpu like amd 7650M?
Anyhow... on switchable mode OFF on Bios... control panel dont run
Play the game on low textures , or before loading game at least then when ingame switch to normal not high textures , since high textures have a lot of hiccups in streaming; and before you enter any new area again switch to low textures , then when loading finishes again to normal textures, you have to do it every time i dunno y.... High textures sure do look pretty but i found they have heavy streaming issues and cause a lot of micro stuttering , btw i am using 64 bit version (somehow gives more stable fps than 32 bit)
btw settings are
64 bit version
screenspace reflections on
image based reflections : off or on (i didn't notice any difference visually or in performance)
texture low on startup and before transition to new area using blue travel points , normal while playing
res :960x540 (maintains aspect ratio)
I'm still trying to understand how having the textures set to low when starting the game at first and then changing it to normal part way through is better than just leaving it at normal permanently if thats seemingly what texture quality is sought after for the most part.. My textures are totally acceptable on low at all times but then again that could be a personal preference thing i guess. Also thinking that low textures on 720p would technically and visually look better than the "normal" textures using 960x540 unless your more concerned with the actual fps number than the game itself. I guess 64bit may be a bit much at 720p but thats why theres the 32bit option that doesn't seem any less stable or more glitchy to me but i only used 64 for a short amount of time with patch 1.
BTW, Arkam Origins is definitely playable and still looks great with the low settings using this driver. I'd actually be really interested to hear if anyone has ever noticed much for FPS DECREASES after installing this or any other driver. Thanks.
because if you leave it at normal when an area loads , then low res textures stream like the ones which we had before the latest thief update (at least they do so on my laptop) , anything above low texture setting causes this issue while changing texture ingame increases texture quality without causing any streaming issues besides a few framerate drops while textures are streaming in completely
