I'm running windows 7 x64 on an Asus u46e notebook with Intel 3000 HD graphics. I attempted to update my drivers recently, but nothing I tried would work. I received various "does not meet minimum requirement" errors and a couple of I/O error messages, but nothing really told me what the problem was. I attempted to rollback my graphics card to reinstall everything new, but now nothing will install and I'm stuck in 1024x768 resolution land. I've tried downloading drivers from Intel as well as the Asus site, but no dice so far. Not sure where to go from here, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to hear that have had issues when installing video drivers.
The message may indicate that your computer manufacturer does not allow the installation of generic Intel video drives. In other words, you are required to install drivers from your computer manufacturer.
Please try to force the installation of Intel generic drivers by performing manual procedure, see here for instructions:
