You're tight in that the Xeon® 5500 processors deliver a huge performance boost over existing Xeon® 5400 CPUs, but it's a tough question to answer without knowing how your systems are being deployed - i.e. how many number of servers (or workstations?), applications, datacenter or workgroup server, etc?
As mentioned in the previous post, there are three main types of Xeon 5500 series processors available that differ in features such as CPU cache, Hyper-Threading, Turbo Boost, QuickPath Interconnect speeds, and memory speed. Overall, we've seen that higher-end CPUs typically deliver higher ROI over time, but it again depends a lot of how you'll be using them - multi-threaded apps? bandwidth-intensive? virtualized?
