Intel Wireless-N 7260 fails to connect WLAN and Bluetooth with Windows 8.1

Hello Community!

I recently bought a Lenovo T440s with an Intel Wireless-N 7260 Wireless and Bluetooth chip.

The device is amazing, everything went fluently. I updated all the drivers, the BIOS, my software and uninstalled the waste, like cloud saving services, games and so on. Everthing was perfect until i updated to Windows 8.1.

Since this update, the Wireless-N 7260 won't work properly any more. The internet is not available directly from the OS startup, I have to wait several minutes. My Bluetooth mouse has abrupt failures for several minutes, works then again, but only for 10 minutes approx.

I also tried every driver and ProSET-version from forum threads I read from people with similar problems. The last try was the actual version 16.7.0, but also with that version it won't work.

I am pretty desperate right now, because the notebook itself is one hot ass piece, and I love to work with Windows 8.1 also.

Please Intel, tell me what to do, or even better, release a driver that works!

Hello,

I too am suffering from similar problem. I have Intel dual band Wireless N7260 on my laptop.

It is also suffering from disconnects; I see Limited Connectivity under Windows 8.1. I have 16.6.x driver version installed.

Is 16.7.x applicable to "Intel dual band Wireless N7260" ? The driver download page for 16.7.x provides inconclusive information on whether it supports dual band N7260.

Intel Support staff please provide assistance.

The 16.7.x package will update your Proset version to 16.7 but the drivers will still be 16.6.0.8

Essentially, no improvement over 16.6 package except for the Proset software.

theveterans, that is a very interesting find. I will try to further research other blogs/ communities hoping to find an solution for this problem.

I hope Intel support is looking at these communities and do the needful.

I am really sorry to know you still have connectivity issues.

The latest driver version for the Intel® 7260 adapter series is indeed 16.6.0; the supported adapter models for each version are listed at the bottom of the respective page.

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/proset-ws/sb/CS-034041.htm Intel PROSet/Wireless Software; Intel PROSet/ Wireless Software Downloads

It is also important to check with the system manufacturer in case the nature of the issue is caused by a faulty integration of the wireless adapter itself, which may not be the cause in all scenarios but some users have reported it previously.

We continue to work on the reported issues as described here: /message/208369# 208369 https://communities.intel.com/message/208369# 208369

We appreciate your patience and understanding in the meantime.

Hello All,

I think I might have solved this issue. Again I am using Intel Wireless Dual Band N 7260 with Windows 8.1

I changed the advanced settings as follows:

(1) HT Mode is on.

(2) Preferred band is 5.2 Ghz

(3) Roaming Aggressiveness is Lowest - I think this is the resolving factor.

It has been connected for a couple of hours now and I haven't seen disconnects yet.

Hello All,

It seems like I jumped the gun too early. The issue is still present with the following settings on Windows 8.1 and Dual Band N 7260:

(1) HT Mode is on.

(2) Preferred band is 5.2 Ghz

(3) Roaming Aggressiveness is Lowest - I think this is the resolving factor.

Intel Support, Please address these disconnect issues at the earliest. There are many people suffering from this issue.

I have the Sony Pro 13 with Win 8.1 and see that now Sony is offering the 7260 b/g/n/ac vs b/g/n. Does anyone know if this solves the dramatic slow download speeds when at low strength of -60 to -70 dbm.

Joe_Intel:

This is a wide spread problem with N 7260 dual band. Please look at the following site:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/networking-wireless/716325-intel-7260-a-31.html http://forum.notebookreview.com/networking-wireless/716325-intel-7260-a-31.html

Numerous pages of frustration by the users using this product. Please escalate the issue appropriately at Intel so that this problem gets resolved at the earliest. This has been a very disappointing experience using Intel Wireless card; definitely leading to a bad reputation for Intel.

Joe_Intel:

I made it up to the trigger, i guess.

I have to correct my own post, it does NOT ONLY happen under Windows 8.1, also 8 is affected.

Besides that, everything works nice when you ONLY USE 1 FEATURE. Use the Bluetooth-chip with a mouse or sth, works perfectly as long as you WON'T use WIFI. Use WIFI and everything works perfectly UNLESS you use Bluetooth additionally.

Thank you for sharing the behavior. I have reported slow throughput with 2.4 GHz and other disconnect issues in 5 GHz with dual band adapters.

I am really sorry for this inconvenience.

try adding you mac address manually into your router as allowed. I think the drivers are incompatible with certain routers and can not negotiate/authenticate the card/device.

I had a similar problem with limited wireless "connection", which would not be gone until Router reset (or at least WLAN reset).

But it suddenly worked and still works since I changed the channel bandwith for 802.11n 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz both from "Auto" to "20 MHz". That can be found in the advanced adapter settings. I don't know how it is actually called since I use a German Windows 8.1, but might be somethng like that.

Good luck.

I had similar issue with Thinkpad E440 using Intel Wireless N 7260 in Windows 8.1 64 bit. Sporadic disconnecting and limited connection almost every 10 secs. Have been tried with workaround in Microsoft Community and here, but the problem still persist.

Tried to clean install Windows 8 instead of 8.1, the problem exists every 5 mins. Already tried all drivers (from lenovo, intel, latest one 17.0) but still.

I haven't tried in Windows 7, in my opinion based on the community said, it will be worked in 7.

Is this related to Intel wireless hardware fault, Microsoft 8.1 issues, or Intel driver miscompatibility? Everyone had similar issue with cross branded laptop. Dell, Asus, Lenovo, HP which using this wireless card.

What can I do then?

I can add Toshiba to the list of laptops with these problems. In particular the Portege Z35. Even with the current Bluetooth and Proset 17.0 drivers I sill have the intermittent dropouts.

I suspect a hardware problem and Intel does not want to admit it. How many have they sold???

I can also add ASUS Ultrabooks, I have the brand new 302 and it is hell, it is deconnecting every minute, with shared 3G of an iphone, it is like every 15 secondes, which makes the laptop totally unusable ...the only way to restore connection is disconnect/reconnect to hotspot. I tried with old b/g and N hotspots and it is exactly the same behavior

I upgraded with .17 drivers and it is still the same issue .... please fix that as soon as possible.

Add Sony Fit 13A to this list. I bought two of these computers two weeks ago and have had to reset my computer to get the adapter to find a wireless signal. It just stops randomly!

I am using Win 8.1. I am taking them back for another brand that does not use Intel for the Wireless.

Stay away from the N-7260. .

Regarding WiFi connection drops, please verify if you get events with the IDs 5007 and 5055in the Windows* Event Viewer (Control Panel, Administrative Tools) at the time the issue occurs. Kindly share the details from those events if available. Information such as AP brand and model, firmware version and authentication method is also valuable.

none of them are displayed. I have issues to connect to Apple Airport Extreme 4G either with 2,4 or 5MHz band, both of them disconnect every 5-30 minutes. When I stream stuff, it even stops earlier after a few minutes (1 to 3).

I even loose connection to the local network, so it is not related to Internet connection.

The same problem occurs with Apple iphone 5C ios 7.1 (11D167) in shared connection, it is working no more ... you can see a few packets exchanged and then the card freeze and loose connection. it makes it difficult to use the laptop in roaming mode with 3G or 4G!

Hi Joe,

I've been having the same problem with N-7260 - frequent disconnecting from the Internet with reason "Default Gateway is not available"... while still the Connection with the AP is active.

This happens sporadically, but very often after system resume/restart.

Driver updates from the Intel site didn't help.

Changing the property "801.11n Channel width for 2.4Ghz" to "20Mhz only" seems to make things more stable.

However I've also changed the power options to be "Maximum Performance" even when on Battery (that is in Power Options -> Edit Plan Settings -> Advanced settings -> Wireless Adapter Settings -> Power Saving Mode -> On Battery: Maximum Performance)... so this could have caused effect.

I've found some of the events you've requested in the below post and attached some of them. Plus ids 5002 and 5005 which are present 1000nds of times.

------------------------------------------------------------------

EventID 5007 (8 times / for ~2days:

------------------------------------------------------------------

EventID 5002 (55035 times)

These occur 43 times every ~5 minutes at the same second as two 5005 events:

------------------------------------------------------------------

EventID 5005 (3500+ times)

2 events every ~5 minutes

------------------------------------------------------------------

EventID 5092 (19 times)

EventID 5035 (20 times)

EventID 5032 (34 times)

Hello Nikik,

The driver 16.1.4.4 is outdated, and we have noticed that older versions like that one may present this type of errors.

For these symptoms, it is advised to install driver 17.14.0 since it prevents these events, and also improves the behavior of the adapter when coming back from sleep.

Please proceed with the following steps.

- Download Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 7*, version 17.14.0 from Intel® Download Center.

- Go to device manager, under Network Adapters, right-click the Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260 and select "Uninstall", make sure to mark the check-box "Delete the driver software for this device".

* If a previous version of the Intel driver is detected and installed, repeat this step until the system goes back to the driver that came with Windows*.

- Proceed to install the driver version 17.14.0 you downloaded before.

- Go to device manager, on the wireless adapter properties, under the Power Management Tab, mark the check box "Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power".
