HD 4600 and Matrox Triplehead

I'm a little baffled because I can't get HD 4600 to work with standard Triplehead resolutions, like 3840x1024.

The highest available is 2400 x 600, and I've also tried the CustomModeApp.

The Matrox website and compatibility tool indicate that it should work, although the list has not been updated for 4th gen.

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/compatibility/gxm/resolutions/ Matrox Graphics - Support - GXM Compatibility List

The cabling and monitors have all been used in this setup before with another graphics card.

Any tips..?

Windows 7 x64

Intel driver: 10.18.10.3345

Triplehead2go Digital edition.

Hi Knut_F,

What is connection you are using, is it HDMI? Can you please post your Graphics report here and also the dxdiag?

Hi Kevin,

I've tried the regular DVI port with a dual link cable, and I've tried the HDMI port with an adapter to DVI-I and the same dual link cable.

Hi Knut_F,

The Graphics controller in your system is capable to get up to 4k resolutions. You can check this information at the following link:

http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics

However, it seems that you are using an adapter and the performance can be affected by these type of devices. Since you have your system updated with the latest driver, my recommendation is to test a direct connection (no adapters) between the computer and the monitor and in that way we can discard a problem with your system. So far, since you are not getting the desired resolution, a firmware update for your active adapter can fix the problem or another option is contacting the adapter manufacture and verify with them this behavior.

After reading about this, I think I've solved it.

Basically there is no HDMI (A) to DVI dual link whatsoever, they are incompatible.

The triplehead2go needs a dual link because the resolution requires a pixel clock rate above 165 MHz, which is the limit for single link DVI. There are cables and adapters out there with HDMI in one end and DVI-DL in the other, but that is just a marketing bluff. The six center pins on the DVI aren't really connected to anything.

In the future there will be an HDMI (B) connector which is wider, has more pins and is compatible with dual link.

You may close this thread now.
