30bit graphics support in Intel HD 4600 graphics

Hello,

I would like to know if there is some way to enable 30bit color (i.e. 10 bit instead of 8 bit for each RGB channel) with the Intel HD 4600 graphics using the Display Port connection. If not, are there plans to update the drivers to include this support? This would be very useful for graphic editors and monitors that can take advantage of it.

Best regards,

Jordi.

Hi Jordi,

The driver we currently have supports 8, 16 and 32 Bit under color Depth which means 8, 10 and 12 Bits per color correspondingly.

Hi Kevin,

Under the Intel configuration application I can only choose 32 bits. Nevertheless, I do not think the graphics card is sending a 10 bit signal to the monitor.

I have tested the 10 bits capability with an application from NEC made for this purpose (www.necdisplay.com/documents/Software/NEC_10_bit_video_Windows_demo.zip) and it returns the following message: "10 bit video is either not supported, or not currently enabled in this video card".

Maybe the problem is that the Intel driver does not support OpenGL? I think the 10 bit is only reachable through this API. In graphics cards of other brands the 10 bit graphics are only available in the provessional version of the cards, e.g. for Nvidia the Quadro cards.

Thanks!

Jordi.

Hi Jordi,

In fact the graphics controller you have supports OpenGL 4. You can confirm this information at the following link:

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-033757.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-033757.htm

I am afraid that we currently have supports 8, 16 and 32 Bit only but I will pass the feedback to the corresponding department for future considerations.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for you answer. I think that you are right in that the card supports 30 bit color, but probably what it does not support is the use of 10 bit per channel in OpenGL. See for example the following link related to Nvidia cards:

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3011 http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3011

Hence it would be very good if Intel supported these 10 bits in OpenGL.

Best regards,

Jordi.

Thanks for that feedback on this matter. I will pass the information to the corresponding department for future considerations.
