Hello JPLord, for this behavior these are the recommendation we can provide you:
- Please check there are not partitions on your SSD. If there is any, you would need to delete the volume or the partition. Do not format the drive. http://download.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/intel_smart_response_technology_user_guide.pdf
- The SSD needs to be installed on SATA 0.
- I would recommend you to uninstall the current RST, and then restart the system and install the latest Intel® Rapid Storage Technology version available which is 126.96.36.1996 .https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23060&ProdId=2101&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208.1*&DownloadType=Drivers
- Check if the motherboard needs a BIOS update.
