HDMI Audio Drops when Receiver Turns Off

I have an Asus H87M-E motherboard. 4th Gen Intel HD 4600 iGPU on i4670K chip.

I installed both the latest drivers from the Asus site and the Intel site. In both cases, the HDMI audio device goes yellow after turning off the receiver or projector and turning it back on. Effectively losing all audio.

I have seen this posted several different places and I have yet to see a response from Intel.

This is a compelte show stopper for all HTPC users.

Intel ,what is the fix?

The second one is with no HDMI audio after changing the source on the receiver.

Also, I have a 7.1 system and the configure speakers option is only showing 5.1 surround. No, 7.1 option.

Please help.

Its funny, Diego asked for feedback on this issue weeks ago, which I gave in another thread, not a single response since then, even tho may ppl are experiencing it. Haswell as it stands is littered with issues.

Hi Kedda,

If you try with a direct connection without the receiver, is it working fine? What are the brand/model of the devices you have tested it with?

no, if I do a direct connection to the projector the same thing happens.

I have tested with AsRock H87m and Asus H87m-e.

I have the same problem with a brand new system I just put together:

- i5-4670K

- Asrock Z87 Pro4 (C2 stepping), latest bios

- Fresh Windows 7 SP1 install with all the latest drivers (Graphics: 15.31.17.64.3257 driver from 9/11/2013)

- AV receiver (Yamaha RX-V673) connected to HDMI out

Symptoms:

- Audio device is not detected if receiver gets turned on after the system has booted

- Audio device is only detected if receiver is on before booting the system

- Audio device is lost/disappears if receiver is being turned off

- Audio device does not reappear when receiver is turned back on. Device manager shows a sound controller with error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

These problems are a real deal breaker for HTPC usage. A fix is urgently required.

Please let me know how I can assist you with solving these issues.

Hi Guys,

Please try doing the following:

  1. Install the Graphics Driver at the following link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23106&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

  1. Once installed the driver above, please open device manager and uninstall the HDMI audio driver and install the latest audio driver from the computer manufacture side.

Hi Kevin,

this did the trick for me. The playback device now appears and disappears properly when the receiver is turned on and off.

So what exactly is the root cause here? An incompatibility of the graphics and audio driver included in the driver package? Can we expect this to be resolved in future driver package releases?

Hi Silus,

I am glad to hear this workaround fixed the issue. At this point we are going to pass the information to the corresponding team for a future fix.

A few things.

First, this DOES NOT solve the problem on my 8.1 installation. Asus h87m-e.

Second, the link is now DEAD

Third, I have Asus H87m-e motherboard. On windows 8, this is not an issue. On windows 8.1 this is a MAJOR issue.

What happens now?

The issue is NOT resolved.

I also had this problem Asus Z87I-Pro and 4670K CPU to Denon AVR-3312 receiver and Samsung Series 7 TV. I completely uninstalled Intel drivers (3316) and made sure they were gone in device manager, then updated BIOS (Asus has released new BIOS for your board too I think) and then installed the new Intel driver (3345). Problem is solved. I hope this works for you.

I am also having this exact problem with my Haswell win 8.1 setup. The second i turn off my upstream receiver (Onkyo TX-NR905) the Intel Display Audio device will disappear from the "Sound, video and game controllers" section, and I will get an exclamation mark on the "High Definition Audio Controller" under "System devices". And from there the only option is to reboot the system to get the audio back. Picture is working as expected.

Hardware: Asrock Z87E-ITX (bios 2.10) + i5-4570T

Tested every driver combination avilable (including the one from yesterday, Audio driver 3129), and they all fail the same way. I have even tried using combinations of various audio drivers from different driver packages (as suggested as a solution in another thread), but they also fail the same way.

Any updates to the Intel graphics driver to solve this issue? I've had to revert to the default intel driver in windows 8.1. Seems to work, but I can't install any updates or I start seeing this problem.
