I'm about to set up a RAID 1 with IRST. I have an existing HDD with a lot of data on it, and i will add a similar HDD without the data. Can i just create the RAID 1 array, without losing the data on the HDD i already have, or do i have to do something special?
P.S. I've looked in the user guide for this, but i couldn't find a clear answer.
Yes, this is possible and it is mentioned on the user guide here: http://download.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/irst_user_guide.pdf at page 30 - "Converting RAID-Ready to Full RAID".
The information on RAID ready is posted on page 29. Basically this means using one single hard drive, with SATA RAID already enabled on BIOS, install the operating system and load the required RAID drivers during te operating system installation.
