Cannot open the Arduino IDE in Windows 7 x64

    AlecH.

I successfully installed the driver of the Galileo,

but the Arduino IDE still cannot open after I unzip it to C:\ by 7-Zip.

      The Arduino icon will disappear

and the IDE won't show as the 1.5.4 version I download from Arduino - HomePage

Does anyone have the same problem?

          @AlecH,

The Galileo board uses a special version of the Arduino 1.5.3 IDE for the x86 architecture, not version 1.5.4.

Please download the Windows driver from this page:

          https://communities.intel.com/community/makers/software/drivers

Let us know how it works out,

          MaryC.

            Mary,

            Thx for ur reply.

But I already tried the 1.5.3 version from Intel. (Intel_Galileo_Arduino_SW_1.5.3_on_Windows_v0.7.5.zip)

There's not any error message after I opened the IDE but the Arduino ICON.

Maybe u can try to run this IDE on a all new installed Windows 7 x64 and see does it work well.

              @AlecH,

Can you try to run the exe file from a command line ?

I would like to see what errors show up on the command terminal.

From my Arduino IDE experience, it has always installed with no errors, but it needs Java.

Also, do you have administrator rights in Windows 7 ? Problems with starting the IDE is mostly around administrator rights for the OS.

                  har,

I tried to open it by cmd, but there has no messages show on it.

                  Shako,

As ur experience, I used the Arduino IDE downloaded from Arduino's Website is fine.

I also had the new JRE 7 and JDK 7 x64. And this special version still cannot open with any user permission.

                    Hi,

I have the same problem with Arduino 1.5.3 on Windows 7 ENT (x86) and Windows 8 PRO (x64). I try run Arduino with parameter --l4j-debug with this output:

                    CmdLine: C:\dev\arduino-1.5.3\arduino.exe --l4j-debug

                    WOW64: yes

                    Working dir: C:\dev\arduino-1.5.3\.

                    Bundled JRE: java

                    Check launcher: C:\dev\arduino-1.5.3\java\bin\javaw.exe (OK)

                    Add classpath: lib\pde.jar

                    Add classpath: lib\ecj.jar

                    Add classpath: lib\RXTXcomm.jar

                    Add classpath: lib\commons-exec-1.1.jar

                    Launcher: C:\dev\arduino-1.5.3\java\bin\javaw.exe

                    Launcher args: -Xms128m -Xmx128m -classpath "lib;C:\dev\arduino-1.5.3\java\lib\tools.jar;lib\pde.jar;lib\core.jar;lib\jna.jar;lib\ecj.jar;lib\RXTXcomm.jar;lib\commons-exec-1.1.jar" processing.app.Base

                    Args length: 185/32768 chars

                    Exit code: 1

Only shows the splash screen and then nothing happen. Sorry for my English.

Have you set JAVA_HOME in the windows env ? and does it point to JDK (not JRE) ?

                          Marchanjo

This is a problem in the IDE 1.5.3 about the locale (different of US), more information in:

                          Arduino 1.5.3 for Intel Galileo can't start. · Issue #1626 · arduino/Arduino · GitHub

A possible workaround in Windows is change the locale settings in the Windows Control Panel, just change the format to English (United States).

Are you still having problems opening the IDE?

                              Anttu

I can confirm that the Arduino.exe for Galileo still doesn't start (it quits after splash screen without any error message) if local settings are something else than US. I've got arduino-1.5.3, Intel Galileo board and Windows7 64bit Finnish, which requires US locale to be used for arduino.exe to start.

Please fix this issue. Upgrading Galileo to use version 1.5.4 of Arduino IDE should fix this.

Today I start to connect Galileo with my PC, which is Win7SP1 Enterprise, 64-bit, the same problem occur for being not able to launch arduino IDE. Thank for @marchanjo's solution to change "Format" from 'Chinese, (Traditional, Taiwan)' to 'English (United States)', then arduino IDE can launch.
