Hi, I'm currently running my computer on an Intel Core i5 2300 and I recently purchased an i7 3770 as an upgrade. After installing the new Core i7, when I try to power my PC on, the power comes on for a second or two then turns off, then powers on again for one or two seconds then turns back off again and repeats until I switch off my psu.
If I put my i5 back into the PC, then the computer starts up normally and runs just fine. It's only when I put my i7 in, that it wont start up/stay on for more than a couple seconds.
I tried updating my bios and clearing my CMOS but I still get the same result. The i7 3770 is listed as a compatible cpu for my motherboard (MSI PH61A-P35 (B3)) and my PSU has more than enough wattage to take on the new chip.
I posted a thread on another forum and they told me that I probably had received a defective chip. So, I got a replacement from Newegg and I'm still getting the same issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Devinj2306, the issue that you are experiencing could be related to the compatibility between the H61 chipset and the 3rd generation processors. It is require to updated the BIOS to use the I7-3770 processor on this motherboard.
For additional information you may want to check the following web site. However, since you are using an MSI motherboard you would need to contact them in order to get the correct BIOS version. http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-033076.htm
