if your Intel SATA Controller has been identified by the OS as "Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller", your system has an Intel 6-Series Chipset.
The exact specification can be detected by a hardware tool like AIDA64 or HWInfo.
According to my knowledge your Dell XPS 8300 has a P67 chipset.
Thanks Fernando. I'll look for those tools. In the meantime I'll assume that it is the P67 and look for more info on that. Something I read in one of the Dell forums said the SATA controller handles 6gb/sec on the first two SATA interfaces and 3gb/sec on the other two. The disk that came with it supports 6gb/sec and one I recently bought also supports 6gb/sec (based on the manufactures' specs). So, I'd like both drives running full speed.
