Intel HD 4600 - Poor HDMI Quality

    toerk

      Hello,

I recently decided to use HDMI as Video Output because the quality is 'better' than VGA, but now in my case it's worse because I don't get an HD screen. When I try to put the resolution to 1920x1080, I get an overscan, so I have to adjust the screen at the intel graphic options. But that won't help, everything is a little bit blurred. I tried adjusting settings on my TV, I put "Aspect Ratio" to "AUTO" (as there is no option called 1:1 or Just Scan, I assume this is a similar option.) and nothing differs from the "16:9" option  This is my TV ( http://www.beslist.be/elektronica/d0000283546/z5KVo5yZo6RenpySlaSe/Haier_LET32C800H.html )

I really don't know what I can do more. These are my settings: http://gyazo.com/1983615c5f7ee12f765e64c3b001cb62.png

any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance

PS: the normal TV resolution is designed for 1366x768, but when I use 1366x768, I get an overscan and I'm not able to fix it like the 1920x1080 because there is no adjusting option like the picture above.

                Hi toerk,

                Thanks for the information.

The over scan image can be caused by the motherboard supported outputs. You need to confirm with the motherboard manufacturer if the product you have supports that resolution. The onboard does support this resolution but the chipset could have been limited by the manufacturer to support certain resolutions.

I noticed that in the graphics report you were using a different monitor. When you use this monitor is the resolution and image quality good? Is it just happening when you try using the TV as display? Are you using clone, extended or Dual Display?

                  Hello,

                  Thanks for the reply.

I have the Intel Z87 chipset and I have confirmed that my motherboard does support that screen resolution. I've been using this TV since the assemblage of this desktop (approximately a month). I don't know why, but overscan happens with every resolution I try and not all of them include an adjusting option. I am now using the 1280x720 @ 60Hz resolution, which is small but text is now at least clearly visible which is not the case with 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. When I'm using a normal monitor (e.g. an old 1024x768 with VGA) there is no overscan, this only happens with my Television. I'm not completely sure but I'm afraid this is an issue with my TV.

                    Hi toerk,

Based on your description, your TV can support up to 1360x768. This can be the reason why you are having problems to display the 1920x1080. I tried replicating the issue with the DZ87KLT-75K motherboard and I am able to reach the 1920x1080 resolution without any problem.

Is there a possibility for you to test the unit with another monitor that can support higher resolutions?

                      Hello,

As I've said before, the TV supports up to 1080p but the problem is that text is blurred and everything is a little bit unclear. This is the actual issue I'm trying to solve, otherwise there is no problem.

PS: What I've described before is a little bit confusing, the TV supports up to 1920x1080, please forget about the 1366x768

I have the same problem. The computer is HP ENVY-M7-j010dx with Intel HD 4600 Graphics. My 32 inch HDTV works great as a monitor with my older computer using the VGA cable. But when I connect my new HP computer by HDMI cable the display is terrible. The colors are not sharp but separated and looks like its not getting the 32 bit colors. The pictures look like they have gradient patches. Here is my report: I am trying to return this computer since I just got it today.

                          Hi toerk

Thanks for the information you provided but based on the graphics report you provided, your TV supports the below resolutions:

                          Monitor Supported Modes:

                          800 by 600 (60 Hz)

                          1024 by 768 (60 Hz)

                          1280 by 720 (60 Hz)

                          1920 by 540 (60 Hz)

                          Chopra,

I recommend you installing the latest graphics driver we have for your controller. You can get it at the following link:

                          https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23106&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

Another good advice is to install the monitor drivers. Sometimes when there are no monitor drivers installed on the system is not possible to get certain resolutions or strange behavior can appear.

                            Hi,

I'm wondering if there has been progress on connecting a TV to my new (Dell) i5 computer using the HDMI port.  I find that it sporadically will work, so I know how good this display can be.  When it is working and the display goes blank (times out), it will come back "blotchy," with lighter and darker characters and holes in the letters filled in.  Updating the driver got me my audio, which was not working, but the display still has this issue.

I took pictures that illustrate the issue, if this is needed.  I suspect a screen dump will not illustrate the problem.  I also have below the output from the driver program that tells you what I got.  Can anyone say whether a normal VGA cord will fix the problem?  It's a $20 experiment and the cable will be difficult to run, but I want this new computer to give me readable text!  Thanks for any help people can provide.

                            Mike

I see you have the latest driver installed so I would recommend you testing a different HDMI cable (Better Quality) or a different DVI or VGA cable for testing purposes.

Thank you Kevin.  I will see if a VGA cable stops this from occurring.  In addition to this issue showing up when the computer comes back from a timeout, other symptoms are that it might have choosen 59 Hz refresh rate (for no reason that I can think of), and I also have the over-scan problem that others have mentioned.  I have to scale vertical and horizontal manually to about 60% to fit the desktop on the screen.  I don't know if these symptoms point away from the HDMI cable (I think they do!), but I will buy some new cables to see what happens.

Oh right just let me know if issue persist.
