Core i7 with TXT?

I'm looking to build a new system and would like to have the capabilities of Core i7 (specifically the latest virtualization extensions, EPT, etc... i.e., what some are calling VT-x2), along with Trusted Execution Technology (TXT). Looking at the processor features pages, it appears that the only processors with support for TXT are the Core 2 Quad series processors. These, of course, support VT-x but they don't have some of the newer virtualization features such as EPT.

Assuming these charts are accurate, could someone help me understand why Intel would do this? Is there any processor available with VT-x2 *and* TXT?

indeed your assumptions are correct. http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37147

Maybe the Core i5 (more targeted at businesses) will include it since the new vpro platforms will include these features.

Thanks this is helpful. If I understand this correctly, then you are saying that Intel won't release TXT with Core i7 at all. So I guess my original question remains, which is why not? From what I've read the Core i5 looks like it will be a slower chip. What about people who would like "have it all" (fastest chip + VT-x2 + TXT)? Is there a technical difficulty in bringing this to market? Or is the assumption that people who care about TXT don't need / want the fastest chips?

exactly right. people who use these chips are gamers and such so there 'normally' isn't a need for these technologies but they are very welcomed in the business space (core i5 and i3) and these are the machines that will make the business segment for the next three years or so.
