Question about BIOS 0066 Update for DZ77GA-70K board...

    TDip

      Hi,

Could someone from INTEL tell me what "updated processor support" means in the BIOS 0066 RELEASE NOTES?  If it is a major revision to the processor microcode (e.g., update C3/C6 stepping), then I will attempt to upgrade my BIOS from 0060 to 0066.  Otherwise, if it is minor, I will not take the risk due to issues already reported.

Intel should provide more details in their release notes so users can figure out if they need to upgrade.  For example, other vendors will tell you in their release notes exactly what changed in the processor microcode.  Right now, BIOS 0060 works perfectly in terms of all my connected hardware as well as XMP settings on 32G RAM (Corsair CMX32GX3M4A1600C11 running at 1600MHz).  When I tried moving to BIOS 0061/0063, the RAM XMP profile no longer worked.  The RAM is very touchy on this board as other memory sticks would not post (CORSAIR VENGENANCE) for 32G RAM config - use matched memory kits to save yourself some trouble.

          Hello TDip,

In fact when a fix like this is included in the BIOS update, is to support a newer processors microcode for or Spec codes (revisions).

At this point, there isn’t information about a new possible release so I would say it is not a very important update to perform but it depends on the customer decision.

          Thanks.

            Kevin,

I do not understand this answer - please clarify.  There is no newer processor other than the i7-3770k for this z77 board is there?  Are you suggesting that this is support for Haswell i7-4770k cpu?  I thought we needed the new z87 boards for that chip (though I personally believe Intel should make their releases backward compatible for the last 2 chip series).  It would be great to be able to simply swap in a Haswell chip for IvyBridge since they are similar anyway.

              Hello TDip,

Please note that the new fix in the BIOS update for the motherboard DZ77GA-70K is to add the support for future Micro-codes.

This does not mean that the motherboard will be supporting the new coming processor generation. The updates are intended to support new Spec codes in the case that Intel® decides to create a new Spec Code or release another compatible processor with different Revision.

              Thanks
