R2000gz crashes after keeping intel xeon phi 5110p (MICs) on

hi,

we have intel; R2000Gz server with two intel xeon phi 5110p cards (MICs) in it. If we boot the cards and make it online and keep idle, our servers gives kernel panic and returns to a # prompt wherein only /dev filesystem is mounted. We need to explicitly power reset the host. Why this is happening is not clear.

-regards,

pankaj

First guess: the MIC's are over heating.

I can't seem to find the config guide, but i seem to recall only the 3100 mics (built in fan) are supported.

Maybe some one else here has the data?

You could try going into bios set-up and setting the fan PWD to 100% to max the air flow from the system fans.

thanks a lot for the pointer..We actually had the issue of MICs overheating..we have added air duct in the server and then we could see that there is temperature decrease of 10 degrees. Also noise is reduced by 25 dB. However as no work is done by MICs, they are just idle, then also why temperature should increase?

Also we fail to understand, our servers give kernel panic and returns to a # prompt wherein only /dev file system is mounted.
