Based on the description you gave us, could you please try the following:
1. Disable the Wake-On-LAN option in the BIOS, maybe at the time you connect the motherboard
2. Try to update the BIOS of the motherboard you have, access the following link Download Center

Hi Ruben, thanks for the reply.
I've already updated the bios to the latest one which was 0051 and I had already tried disabling every single power option option that could potentially wake up the pc.
I called Intel technical support this morning and they were unable to shed any light on this issue so I sent the board back to the retailer and bought a new one while they sort out the RMA.
I'll let you know if the problem persists when I install the new board.
I returned the motherboard to the retailer and bought a new one which has resolved the issue.
