Compatibility problems with the latest Intel driver on HD Graphics 4000

Hello all. I've joined the community today. I have problem with latest, which is 3071 with new interface, Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver and I want to share with you.

I'm using netbook and I have two graphic cards on my computer (Intel HD 4000 and AMD 7670M). I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The latest 3071 is great for the performance, I mean really great, I had HUGE, HUGE performance on some certain games, which those I can't run with 7670M because of AMD Enduro technology. Even some of them up from 25 fps on LOW settings to 70-120 fps on HIGH which is awesome. And I thank to Intel for that, I had never saw a such performance up through driver. The card actually can show itself for me now. Also, I really like new interface.

However, I have problems. The problem is, the 3071 driver is not very stable with AMD Catalyst 13.3 Beta 3, 13.4 WHQL, 13.5 Beta 2. I tried all of them and I had Aero issues on 13.3 Beta 3 and 13.5 Beta 2. I instantly uninstalled them. 13.4 WHQL works fine with Aero but this time, I had compability issues. Some of games don't work well. I've tried CoD: MW1, Paradoxgames (Victoria 2, CK2, EU3, HoI3) and these games don't work stable. There are some incoming-outgoing black lines on the game screen which was not happen before. When I opened multisampling on the games and morhpological filtering in AMD Catalyst, these black lines are gone but this time, I can't play smooth because fps drops down to 20-25. Sigh.

These problems does not exist with 3062 Intel driver (old interface) and AMD Catalyst 13.4 WHQL. But, this time again, my fps down from 70-120 to 20-25 on games that I run with Intel HD 4000. Really unbelieveable, I don't know what causing this. 😕 How can a driver has huge impact like this?

At the same time, my PC temperature up some 5-10 degrees after install the 3071 Intel driver. I really didn't want to uninstall latest 3071 driver but I had no choice. I couldn't continue to use the driver like this. I hope that you give me some advice because I will go back 3071 If I can solve these issues. Also, I will be greatful if you don't advice me to go and use the manufacturer drivers. They are very outdated. Official Intel and AMD drivers are working fine except on this one. Thanks in advance.

Could you please specify where are you getting that AMD Catalyst updates from?

From AMD's official website, Intel as well. They were working very well together until 3071 driver. For now, I'm using 13.4 WHQL of Catalyst and Dec 2012 (2932) Intel HD 4000 driver without any problem. Of course, my huge performance gain from 3071 driver is down dramatically after install 2932 Intel driver.

I noticed that only 3071 driver can make it up my Intel HD 4000's MHz to 1100 (1.1 GHz). As I checked on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, Intel HD 4000 never goes above 350 MHz with 2932 driver or else, only 3071 make it so. I think that this is the problem. Is there anything I can do about it except go back 3071 driver? It does not happen always but when it does it makes the game lagging.

The latest generic Intel® HD Graphics drivers, 3071, should be able to work in systems that also feature a third party video controller like the one that you are using; however for this, the system has to be using the latest driver for the other video controller which has to be provided by your Original Equipment Manufacturer directly, Hewlett Packard* in this case.

So, do I have to wait HP to update the drivers? It will take a few years I guess. No thanks. I won't go back their drivers either, they don't work and also very outdated.

It seem that I need to wait stable driver versions of both Intel and AMD drivers for work well together. I hope that Intel do not release the new driver so late, there is nearly four months between 2932 and 3071. Thank you for trying to help Mr. Diego.

Hello dear people. I want you to let you know that the 3165 driver has solved almost all problems for me. The only problem is that the Windows Experince Index still can not finish the test with error message and did not give me score. But it is not a big deal for me, really. WEI score is just cosmetic. 3165 driver is far more better than 3071. I have got huge performance up on certain games, also no crashes and no blackscreens that shaken on the screen anymore. Ridiculous temperature up before in 3071 driver also has gone with the latest, 3165 driver. Well done Intel!

Hello people.

It seems that the problem did not solved at all with the latest, 3165 driver. Only the applications and games, which those unstable in 3071 driver, have replaced with others.

For example, when I tried to open PES 2013 with AMD Radeon 7670M graphic card, it gives me this error:

http://i.imgur.com/0LAGjMQ.png http://i.imgur.com/0LAGjMQ.png

It is same as for FIFA 08. It does not work with 7670M due to compatibility problem. In League of Legends, when I tried to open the game with discrete graphic card (7670), I had black screens that shaken on the screen all the time just like before in 3071 driver.

This also effects programs. FMTRE (helpful editor software for FM games) does not work with discrete graphic card. I get error from below:

http://i.imgur.com/qbebCF5.png http://i.imgur.com/qbebCF5.png

As you can see the pictures from above, Intel's latest driver causes the problem. Nevertheless, I can play and open all these games and programs smoothly and without problem while selected power-saving GPU which is Intel HD 4000. I hope this compatibility problem will not effect big, graphic demanding games. Intel HD 4000 is fine for an iGPU but not able to play Crysis 2 smoothly, as most of you know.

The 2932 driver, Dec 2012, seems the best stable driver out there for me but lacks of performance on certain games. I will be stay in the latest 3165 driver because it gives a lot performance regardless on some problems but I hope Intel will release "more" stable driver soon, if there will be any, of course.

Hello people. I have found a new movie player program today, called Splash Player Pro. It has many features such as Motion Ultra 1080 that makes the movies really good. I wanted to try it but guess what? When I tried to open the program with AMD Radeon graphic card, it gives me (again) this error:

http://i.imgur.com/3QvVBbs.png http://i.imgur.com/3QvVBbs.png

If you see the crash details, Intel's latest driver causes the problem. If I set Power Saving GPU to the program in Catalyst Control Center instead of High Performance, the program will open, but the movies run very fast than normal due to lack performance of HD 4000 which I was afraid of.

So Intel, what are you going to do about it? Are you aware of these compatibility problems? Can you able to release stable and performance driver at the same time? I hope you do because ever since I bought this Intel+AMD combine laptop, I had these issues and finally sick of it.

karasahin, switchable graphics is the feature that allows you to use an Intel® HD Graphics video controller and a third party video controller in the same system, which allows you to use each one of them depending on the tasks that you are doing in order to get the benefits from the technologies that each video controller has to offer

That had to use special drivers provided only from the system/computer manufacturer or Original Equipment Manufacturer in order to work.

As we have mentioned above, the newer versions of the generic Intel(R) video drivers (starting from version .3071) will work in systems that feature switchable graphics. However, an updated driver from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (Hewlett Packard* in your case) has to be used for the additional (third party) video controller. Unless this is done, there is guarantee that the Intel(R) generic drivers will work properly when using switchable graphics.

So, if you are not able to obtain an updated driver from your Original Equipment Manufacturer, then you may need to roll back to the previous versions that worked in your system to avoid this kind of conflicts.

Hello Mr. Diego. Thanks for your reply.

I would like to go back to most stable (for me) 2932 driver, Dec 2012, IF I could have found a way to disable "dynamic frequency" feature of HD 4000 through Windows. So that I can disable this feature just before I open the games or run applications. I don't want to run HD 4000 full capacity on idle, only in games and applications which those I believe HD 4000's driver does recognize as "not very graphic demanding games and applications".

The main reason I use newer versions (3071 and 3165) of the drivers that they actually can able up to frequency of HD 4000's core clock 350 MHz to 1.1 GHz (1.100 MHz) on certain games. This will have an huge impact to run the games and applications smoothly. However, regardless how much stable 2932 driver is, it can not able to up frequency to 1.1 GHz. The biggest problem in the driver for me. It behaviors like idle mode in the game and stuck at 350 MHz core clock. Therefore, the games and applications which those work with HD 4000 will not work smoothly. If I can fix this, I will happily go back to 2932 driver.

So... Is there way to disable this "dynamic frequency" feature that I mentioned above? Since I use laptop my BIOS has very limited features (thanks to HP) so I can not do that from there. Because of that I'm asking you to how can I do this through Windows. Is this possible? If it is I will be very happy. I will wait your answer. Thank you.

These options would depend on what your Original Equipment Manufacturer has enabled/disabled as configurable options, however you might check on BIOS and disable options such as Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency, Intel® Turbo Boost Technology and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology and then in the operating system disable any power saving feature related to the video controller and set the power options as "Always on"

I checked these options you have mentioned above in BIOS three days ago. None of them were there, as I feared. I could find "Virtualization Technology" which only related to Intel. Since then I have been searching modded BIOS for my laptop but it seems that HP has done well to encrypted their BIOS (I don't know why they even bother to do it), I could not find any. Some people offered help mod my BIOS that might work, but they also mentioned this process can brick my motherboard that something I can not risk it.

Can't I do that in the operating system instead of BIOS? It must be a some tool to do it. For example, there is a very useful program that disable HDD's Advanced Power Management to prevent HDD's weird click sounds through the operating system for whom can not do it from BIOS. Is there any related program to this problem? Official or unofficial, it does not matter. Any help will be appreciated.

All these settings are managed at BIOS level, as much as you could try within the operating system would be to adjust the power settings as always on within the OS, however there is no guarantee that the frequencies will be dynamically adjusted by these technologies.

I'm gonna back to Dec 2012 .2932 driver and stay there. Medieval 2: Total War won't work with high performance GPU anymore and give the error message due to conflict of the drivers. My patience has come to the end.

I was searching an useful solution for the problem since almost two weeks but I could not find any. My BIOS has locked and there is no way to disable "dynamic frequency" a.k.a "Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency" of HD 4000 through the operating system (Windows). I can only disable CPU's turbo boost technology.

I tried latest AMD driver, 13.8 Beta 2 and also tried even leaked version of Intel drivers but no luck, same problem.

My performance which was gain from .3165 driver will be drop dramatically after return to .2932 in some games, but at least I will have stable drivers.

For the record, I think that the switchable graphics technology are cancers to the netbooks. So many problems. It was a huge disappointment to who wants performance. Also so many restrictions, the best example is BIOS. I will probably avoid from the netbooks in the future.

We appreciate your feedback on this matter.

In this case you may need to keep checking with your Original Equipment Manufacturer for an updated driver for the system that you have in order to solve these performance problems that you are having.
