Hey,
I know that their is practically no Linux support for any PowerVR based chipset. But I have a netbook that came pre-installed with Linux, and because of Intel not being bothered to make drivers that have 3D Acceleration we are stuck using GMA500 2D drivers on outdated systems. It's bad enough that you will not develop drivers despite the community pleading for them, but you will not even release the source code to the existing drivers (like the GMA500 driver). If you made the driver opensource then people from the Linux Community and other developers would most likely be able to develop fully working drivers with 2D and 3D Acceleration.
PLEASE Intel listen to your community. You sell us a product with Linux then abandon us. You cannot tell us to go to the Linux Community because we cannot develop drivers from complete scratch without you opening the sourcecode. You cannot tell us to goto Imagination Technologies (The people who developed the GMA3600 and licensed the chip to Intel) as they say it is Intel's responsibilty.
I urge people in need or these drivers to share your thoughts and show Intel that we need these drivers to use our netbooks.

3 weeks later and still no fucking news... Jesus Intel your killing us. All we want is drivers that you cannot be bothered to update or opensource. Give some support here.

I am also waiting for the release of the source code of the drivers...
Intel, what do you have to loose?
Intel, what can you gain?
My point exactly!

Intel, We're still here, and we still want drivers that you cant be arsed to make. If you can't make the drivers, opensource them. Or get of your arses and provide support. START LISTENING.

Dear Intel,
Please provide the source code of the Linux GMA 3600/3650 driver. We will take care of the rest.
This is almost zero effort for you, right?

Appologies for the censored language. But surely you can see why we are angry. Their is a very very easy option that would make us get off your back. Just opensource the existing linux drivers, like the ones used in Meego, The community really will take care of the rest, just as ArthurBorsboom said.

Glad to see the Admin is actually reading these posts, even if all they can do is remove offensive words. Nic, is there any possibility that we could even have an 'off the record' reason for why nothing is happening on these graphics chips? Clearly someone, somewhere has made a decision to do nothing, to put their heads in the sand and tell you and others in this support forum to ignore all requests. So please if there is any way you or someone else who is willing to, to give us the real reason for this apathy then this might be useful in changing the situation.
And as Nic said, yelling abuse at people will get us nowhere, we need to plead, beg and get the relevant authorities involved...

The point is that we wouldnt be hurling abuse if Intel would just opensource the code. Damn, it feels like we are asking for faster-than-light-travel to be invented. All Intel has to do, is expose their sourcecode for the existing drivers that they made about a year ago, titled 'Bee' and place it in a nice zip file and upload it to 01.org (Intels OpenSource graphics website).
Nic, appologies again for the language aimed at you, please respond with real updates or what we can do to get these drivers opened. Can we speak to developers? etc
Cheers,

Seeing as still nothing is happening, and the fact that Intel are still showing no support for this disgrace of a graphics core, I have created a petition,https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/intel-listen-to-the-community-and-develop-gma3600-drivers-for-linux here , in the hopes that Intel will truly see that we need these drivers and will hopefully opensource or continue to update the existing drivers and add 3D support.
I encourage everyone, whether a GMA3600 user or not to sign and pass on this petition to show Intel we are willing to stick as Intel buyers if Intel supports us.It takes just a few seconds. I continue to welcome and would be extremely happy if the communities admins would reply again.
Thank You,
-Sam

He posted/message/198704# 198704 this in a wrong thread with my name at the beginning, But this is for Intels WiDi. Not the GMA3600.
Thanks for that. In the meantime, Please sign the petition and make Intel realise.
Cheers,

High five for the genius...
Now back to the problem, if we look at the history of Intel using Imagination Technology solutions, there are very few (if any) open source drivers available. This is almost definitely down to the way they license their technology to Intel, I mean even when someone on their (IM) forum asked about what was actually inside their chips in terms of processing units, they asked the guy to sign a NDA. So realistically unless IM changed their business method then I think Linux support needs to be forgotten, as frustrating as that may be.
Nevertheless Intel should be providing some kind of support for all common operating systems.

Alasdair, Their are two forms of a solution for Linux support. Either they opensource it, which as you just said may not be possible due to an NDA, (however, you can download the DDK from IM for free without one) or continue to update the drivers that do exist, from 2012.

Hi Sam,
I agree that they should continue to upgrade the drivers, as you can see I'm trying to do whatever I can to get that done for Windows 7. However, I think it is worth commenting on the size of the Linux community, and the cost to Intel of providing updates, if Intel are incredibly reluctant to even give Windows 7 updates, then clearly the possibility of success with Linux is unfortunately almost zero.
I have downloaded the DDK, and I think it must be possible to port it in some form to a driver, or if not it would at the very least give some useful information on the structure and operation of IM's chips, however my guess is that there is a quite a big gap between those two. Having said that I will not say it is impossible, if you have the skills to do that then I think it is possible, given my experience of Canon cameras being adapted. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK CHDK Wiki

We're talking about a multi-billion dollar company here. If they can afford to produce processors, I'm almost certain they can afford to spend some time updating already existing drivers. The fact also remains that this chip was released in 2011, just 2 years. Intel are abandoning us and they should stop it. They should support their customers. If we were talking about a 5 year old chip, maybe I would understand.
As for porting a 'homemade' driver through the DDK, I agree we'd need some form of documentation.

Whether it is a start up or a multinational, they still need to follow what shareholders (not customers) deem to be the priorities. Apparently we're not a priority, and so the absolute minimum effort is being given to this area. with I think the hope that after 5 years we will move on and forget about the way we have been treated....
