Hi, I captured it and you can see it here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54513180/screen%20resolution.avi http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54513180/screen%20resolution.avi
Somehow, everytime i switch off my monitor, the screen resolution will change to smaller size.
When I turn on, it will change back. The is frustrating as some program or icons will shift.
Is there anyway to let it not change the screen resolution when i switch off my monitor?
Am using G2020 intel processor build in graphics with the latest driver.in windows 8 64bit g, as shown here

The problem is that your processor is first generation graphics, in other words, Intel HD Graphics and you are using Windows* 8. In this case, you have loaded Windows generic drivers that are inbox drivers, they do not contain all proper features for your graphics controller.
Please bear in mind Intel did not develop drivers for Intel HD Graphics running Windows* 8. Your graphics controller supports full windows 7 32 or 64 bit.
See here for more information:

This is very annoying bug in Windows.
My config:
Windows 8 Pro (64-bit),
Intel HD Graphics 3000,
NEC MultiSync PA231W via DisplayPort.
I have this bug since Windows 7. In my case, according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625567 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625567, it's related to DisplayPort. Nothing changed in Windows 8.

Hi Stanley & Andrey,
Have you updated to the latest drivers for your configuration?
Stanley: Download this driver here; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22605&lang=eng Download Center
Andrey: Download this driver here; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22628&lang=eng Download Center
Let me know if after upgrading your drivers, this issue is still happening.
Also, @Stanley, if you can clarify for me please; I'm looking at your .AVI video.. the first resolution is when it is running normally, the second resolution is when you turn the display off and then back on, and the last resolution is after it automatically adjusts to the right size again, correct?
Thanks,
-Nic

Also, can both of you provide a copy of your DxDiag's (Start -> Run -> Dxdiag -> Save All Information) and your Intel® Graphics Driver Report (Ctrl + Alt + F12 -> Options & Support -> Information Center -> Save)
Just post them here so I can take a look!
Thanks again,

Hi Nic,
yes, I'm using the latest drivers.
Actually, some time ago I found a sort of solution http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/4d8f3aef-8c04-481b-a69a-ec0fbf3669c2/ here (RMNixon's post by Saturday, June 16, 2012 5:41 AM).

Hi Nic,
after this workaround I just have no problem with resolution change after turning off my monitor. I have changed in the registry the default resolution (1024x768) to the resolution of my monitor (1920x1080). Since the default resolution and screen resolution are the same now there is no problem. But this is definitely a workaround, not a proper solution.

seems logical, intel should change the default resolution in the registry too with the new driver unless they have a better solution to it
