Windows 2012 will not recognize the W2K12 driver for RS2WC040 controller

I am doing a new Windows Server 2012 install. My server motherboard is a Supermicro X8DTL-if that I have updated to the latest BIOS, version 2.1b. I have an Intel RS2WC040 RAID Controller connected to (4) Western Digital RE SAS 1Tb hard drives configured as two RAID1 arrays.

I have updated the RS2WC040 controller to the latest firmware package (v20,10,1-0126_r2 ) and I have downloaded the Windows Server 2012 drivers for the RS2WC040 and placed them on a USB drive.

When I run the Windows Server 2012 setup, I get to the dialog that states "A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard Disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now."

I insert the USB with the files on it and browse the USB drive and select the folder for the W2K12 driver. It displays the "Intel RAID Controller RS2WC040 (E:\RS2WC040 Raid Controller\Windows Server 2012\Driver\Signed_Driver_6.504.5.0-WK1megasas2.inf) in the list of available drivers. I select it and then after it scans a bit, I get a message that states "No new devices were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers and then click OK"

If I click OK, it just scans a bit and then repeats the message.

      Any ideas?

I don't see anything with the driver installation files and we haven't received any reports of issues. I see your installation process differs from those in the readme file. Can you try the following?

          Installation Instructions

This updated driver can be applied using the normal OS installation options.

Extract package contents to a user specified location such as = a:\ or a USB flash drive.

          A) Driver Installation Instructions for Windows* 2012/8/7/2008/Vista OS

          a) This procedure installs the Intel RAID device driver on a new Windows* 2012/8/7/2008/Vista system. Windows 2012/8/7/2008/Vista automatically adds the driver to the registry and copies the driver to the appropriate directory.

          1. Start the Windows installation by booting from the Windows 2012/8/7/2008/Vista DVD-ROM.

The system BIOS must support booting from a DVD-ROM. BIOS settings might require changes to allow DVD-ROM booting. See your system documentation.

          2. When the screen displays: "Where do you want to install Windows?", select 'Load Driver', then click Next.

          3. The system prompts for a Load Driver dialog to ask for the manufacturer-supplied hardware driver disk. Insert the driver diskette containing the Windows 2012/8/7/2008/Vista device driver, and press <Enter>.

NOTE: You may ask to supply the appropriate INF path if you want to load driver from a USB flash drive.

          4. Select the Windows device driver from the menu by highlighting it, then click Next.

          5. Remove the USB flash drive. Follow the Microsoft Windows installation procedure to continue the OS installation.

Where did you run the installation from? It seems the server is looking for installation media, not RAID driver.
