Hi, My Intel HD 4000 is not working properly, I have Windows 8 64bit and it is only recognizing Microsoft Basic Display Driver as the display adapter. I have installed the latest drivers from intel website
Graphics: 9.17.10.2932
Display Audio Driver: 6.14.0.3097
and also
Graphics: 9.17.10.2963
but the latest drivers have no effect and nothing show up in the windows 8 graphic options tab and display adapter types shows only Microsoft Basic Display Driver in display adapter information section. Only device manager recognizes Intel HD Graphics 4000 but I am not able to access intel graphic option in Windows 8 display adapter tab. Many HD videos do not play smoothly and I am not able to play any games.

Hi ALI,
I recommend uninstalling the driver completely first from Programs and Features in Control Panel and then installing the latest graphics driver Gigabyte provides in their website. You can update the graphics driver from this link http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4279# dl http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4279# dl
Thanks!

Hi Fred,
I did as you told me, I uninstalled the Intel graphics driver for Program and features in control panel, restarted and installed the new driver the from Gigabyte website but Windows 8 pro is still only recognizing Microsoft Basic Display driver and when right click on desktop there are no Graphic properties, also there is no sleep mode in Windows power menu. The only place I can see Intel HD 4000 is in device manager under network adapters.

Hi ALI,
It seems to be the operating system got corrupted. The driver Gigabyte has in their website is the one they have validated to work fine with your specific motherboard model. I recommend reinstalling the operating system and then using the Gigabyte CD to load all of the required drivers and software.
Thanks!

I found this page via google. I'm having the same issues. Re-installing the OS is a silly solution. This was working until windows update restarted this machine and it's now in this state.
I'm trying to get the Intel HD to work so that Virtu can run. Without the right drivers, it won't work. The HD 4000 drivers are installed and the device is running but the display adapter for my monitor is Microsoft's generic driver.

Hi Zac,
If the issue started after some Windows Updates were installed then you can try a Windows System Restore. You can find more information on this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
Thanks!

I am having the exact same issue as the previous posters on Win8 x64. I am unable to successfully install the HD4000 drivers or use the Intel Graphics Control panel. The software will install, the driver shows in the Device Manager, however the Display control panel shows a "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" installed. As a result, I'm not able to use any advanced features like multiple monitors.
I normally use a Radeon 7870 for my graphics solution, however my card is being RMAed at this point. Until then, I'm stuck using the integrated graphics on the CPU, which aren't working properly.
I have tried:
Uninstalling the HD4000 driver
Uninstalling the AMD graphics drivers
Reinstalling the HD4000 driver
Forcing the uninstall through the device manager

I have tried restoring and everything else but I still have the same problem the only solution seems to be re-installing the Windows 8 completely which sucks because you lose all the settings, I am buying a dedicated video card soon so I will just stop using Intel HD 4000.

Hi all,
Would you please post a screenshot of Device Manager showing the adapter that appears under Display Adapters and another screenshot of the Display Control Panel?

Hi genericasian,
Checking the pictures seems to be a corruption in the registry but, still you can post the Dxdiag report and if possible the Graphics Diagnostic Report to see if there is anything else that can be done.
You can create the Dxdiag report if you click on the Start button, type in "dxdiag" on the search bar, press enter, click on "Save All Information" and please post here the report.
This link will help you generate the Graphics Diagnostic Report http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009476.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009476.htm. Due to the issue you are having you may not be able to create the Graphics Diagnostic Report, there is a chance you will not be able to find all of the options.

Here you are. Your "alternate" steps won't work for me because I don't have access to the Intel control panel. I don't believe the computer thinks that there is an Intel graphics device is present; every time I try to launch it, nothing happens.

Hello everyone, I have a few questions for each of you;
@Ali: If you are still interested in resolving this issue, can you provide a copy of your dxdiag please? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information).
@Zac: Please provide a copy of your dxdiag as well. (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information). Additionally, what is the make/model of your system, or your motherboard if it's custom?
@genericasian: You currently do not have any add-on graphics cards installed in your system, correct? You mentioned that you uninstalled the HD 4000 driver, but then afterwards had to force the uninstall - did the driver not correctly uninstall the first time? What is the make/model of your system or motherboard if it's custom?
Thanks everyone,
-Nic

I do not currently have another GPU installed. When I was troubleshooting this issue on my own, I had uninstalled the GPU drivers and reinstalled them (including the latest driver you posted). The drivers will uninstall properly. In device manager, the information does update when a new driver is installed. However, nothing changes in the display properties.
I have a Gigabyte Sniper M3 motherboard with the latest BIOS.

Hi everyone,
So I worked with the folks at Gigabyte* yesterday to see if they could reproduce the problem with their own hardware. They tested ALI's configuration (same motherboard, same processor), with all 3 drivers - and were unable to show the problem. I've attached the screenshots they provided. You'll notice how through all 3 drivers they tested (ours, theirs, and microsoft*) - the adapter information was still visible.
Since they were unable to reproduce the same problem, I would recommend exchanging your motherboard for a new one. Let me know if you have any other questions/comments/concerns.
Thanks,
-Nic

Hi Nic,
I Have already replaced my motherboard once the Gigabyte UP5-TH and I don't think its a hardware problem. The only solution I found is to do a fresh installation of Windows 8.
