Please make sure you are using the latest BIOS for your NUC product. Are you able to test the WiFi adapter in another system to make sure it is fully functional?
To proceed with more troubleshooting, I'd need some additional details: which NUC product you have, what BIOS version is installed, the driver version you are trying to use for the WiFi adapter.
I have exactly the same problem but with n-2230.
Please can you contact your local technical support center to get it fixed.

i'm not running windows on my NUC, but i am successfully using a Dell-branded AR5B195 wifi/bluetooth card in the 1/2 height mini pci-e slot. that chip is a combination of the atheros AR9285 wifi and AR3011 bluetooth chips. both wifi and BT work without issues.
the model number is DW1702 and i paid about $10 on ebay. you should check the dell support site first, but i assume there are drivers available from dell, if they aren't already included in windows or available from windows update.

I got it to work
Its weird, I removed ssd disk and n2230card., removed the two antennas. Inserted the cards again and suddenly Windows 8found the cards!!!!!!
Then I attached the antennas again.
My NUC found the Wifi-card after BIOS update. I now use the latest version from Intels website.
Thank you for the advice.
