What happens is that the graphics controller is not compatible with Windows 8. The graphics driver that is installed is a generic one provided by Microsoft. Since it is generic not all of the graphics features will be available. I recommend using any of the operating systems that are in the following link http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-025616.htm

I couldn't figure out why someone with
an older version of the laptop I have now
could play it but I can't. It's the chipset.
As for the OpenGL 2.0 - you'll pretty much
never get the latest support through windows
update. Here's the link for the older driver...
Run it, and say yes when it points out that
it's an older driver. I know this is an old forum
post, but others may come looking for this like
Minecraft still won't work, but you'll have the
highest OpenGL the chip can support.
