If you want to ensure it works with the NUC you need to buy one of the ones on the list.
I know that seems pretty lame but it's how it works. Anything else and you run the risk of it not working. All tech companies do the same, they can't really test every possible option and combination so you get a bunch of options and then you either buy one on the list to be safe or you buy something else and try it for yourself. You can also look for customer reports of what works but again what works for one person doesn't always work for another even when it should.
We are toying with the NUC for using it as a possible appliance solution. We are looking for smaller sized mSATA SSDs as anything larger would be a waste of space.
If anyone finds a 8-16Gig mSATA SSD that works with the NUC please post it here.
I purchased an 8GB model of these Solid State Storage - Disk on Module DOM - Flash Disk Drive - 40 44 pin IDE & SATA - Solid Flash Storage Solution (DRPS-08GJ30AC1DN - 08GB InnoLite mSATA D150Q) and found to be compatible/working with my NUC.
Just to add a couple more data points to the list:
- Runcore Pro V (T501) 120GB SSD was not recognized by the BIOS
- MyDigitalSSD Smart Series 128GB SSD was recognized (and did not require a reinstall of windows, surprisingly enough)
Another data point:
I can attest that the Plextor M5M 128GB mSATA SSD (model number PX-128M5M) works fine in my DC3217IYE
