    Memory clock speeds with DZ77GA-70K

I recently purchased an Intel DZ77GA-70K motherboard along with an Intel Core i7 3770 processor and Kingston KHX24C11T3K2/16X memory module.  The memory module is DDR3-2400 RAM.

Unfortunately, I can only configure the motherboard to run the memory clock speed at 1333 Mhz.  I get three motherboard beep sounds (and the computer will not start up) If I change the clock speed to any speed above 1333 Mhz.  Why can't I adjust the RAM clock speed above 1333 Mhz?  Did I needlessly purchase an expensive memory module that is capable of 2400 Mhz when I should have just purchased one that maxes out at 1333 Mhz?
