Hi,
Like, it seems, quite a few people on this board, I have a Sandy Bridge processor with integrated HD Graphics 3000 (connected to an NVidia chipset for the discrete graphics). I am only using HDMI output, as it's a home theater PC connected to my entertainment unit.
I recently updated to Windows 8, and although the graphics adapter detects just fine, it does not detect any displays attached to it. So, Windows installs and operates a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. This outputs basic video to the TV, but no audio, and no ability to adjust (i.e. overscan) the video. It was all working find until the Windows 8 upgrade.
I've tried installing the latest drivers from Intel (I have version 9.17.10.2867, dated 26/09/2012). This has not fixed the issue.
I would really appreciate someone fixing the driver to properly detect and use the HDMI port, where it's the only output being used.
Below I have pasted my dxdiag output, in case it's any use. Thanks a lot in advance if anyone can solve my issue.
Dan

Ok, so Windows was telling me lies. Using Device Manager > Update Driver > Search the web for updated drivers Windows was telling me my driver version (9.17.10.2867) was up to date. I used Intel's Driver Updater software, and it found version 9.17.10.2875, so I've installed that.
However, this still has not fixed the issue.
Anybody? In particular, anybody from Intel?

Sorry no answer, but support to your issues
Same problems
I'm using this driver 9.17.10.2867 for dual screen one regular PC monitor one T.V through HDMI, however I could't get sounds to work with this driver. TV speakers not detected.
If I go back to previous drivers things seems to work very well and sounds through T.V speakers with no issues. However, every times windows 8 update it self, I guess this driver also get updated and I lose the T.V speaker among the list of options in playback tab under sounds.

Hello,
Could you please provide further information on what kind of system are you using? Please provide the full model and manufacturer name of the computer you have in case it is an wholesale/OEM system or the model of the motherboard being used.

Hi Diego,
The computer is a ASRock Vision 3D Series (Sandy Bridge) - Model Number VIsion 3D 252B.
It was supplied as a barebones kit PC, to which I have added a hard drive, CPU and RAM.
Unfortunately, I cannot get the Intel Graphics Properties UI to start up - I click the icon from the Start screen, and am taken to the desktop, but nothing loads up. I've searched the following folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\
but haven't been able to turn up any useful program logs showing why the app doesn't start (it could be because the adapter/driver doesn't detect any displays attached, even though HDMI is attached).
Appreciate any further advice you can provide, and will assist in any way I can
