    DZ77GA-70k .... is this normal?

      I have a question regarding waking from sleep mode.  I'm trying to determine if this is "normal operation" for this board, or if something is not working right.  I'm leaning towards something being a bit off, since I've used sleep mode on many different systems and it didn't behave like this.

       

      My system is a DZ77GA-70k, 3770 processor, NVidia 660ti video, Windows 8 Pro.  The system will go into sleep mode properly, and it WILL wake up, but it's different than any other I've seen.  Instead of just simply waking up, it goes to the BIOS screen, fans spin for about .5 seconds, shuts off, spins up, shuts off, then boots back into Windows where I left off. 

       

      That ... just doesn't seem right.  Previously when I woke my systems from sleep, it bypassed the BIOS screen entirely and the Windows desktop would appear in about 3 seconds, done.  This current method isn't much different than just powering it off and on again as far as time saving goes.

       

      I've checked to see that I don't have hibernate enabled, or hybrid sleep, just to test it.  I'm not using the Rapid Start option in the BIOS, just standard sleep mode.  I'm not sure what is causing this to happen, but I'm certainly looking for any input.

          I can tell you that it's not normal behavior. 

           

          I have the same motherboard, a "K" model 3770 CPU, but I'm using the integrated video.  Windows 8 Pro.   Sleep/wake works as one would expect...tap on the mouse, the power LED goes solid, the disk activity light flashes and the screen comes up with Windows where it last was.

           

          To me, it sounds as if the BIOS is reloading default settings because it believes the setup info is incorrect or corrupted.  If that's the case, check to make sure:

           

          -- the 3V CMOS battery on the motherboard is good and properly seated

           

          -- the 24pin ATX  and 8 pin E-ATX power connectors are _fully_ seated in their respective sockets.  Same for the 6/8 pin power connectors for the video card (if used). 

           

          -- all the USB headers on the motherboard and any device attached to a USB port are secure

           

          The next thing I'd try is to enter BIOS setup, select "reload defaults" and then save the setup and exit. You can test the sleep behavior at this point to see if it operates properly.  If so, you can reboot into BIOS setup and set your preferences and retest.
