HD Graphics 3000/2000 Driver for Windows 8 have incomplete options?

Hi,

I had just upgraded to Windows 8 and was glad to find the driver for GMA HD2000 on my i5-2400 available for Win 8. I downloaded and installed the latest version as of 12/6/12, version 15.28.8.64.2875.

However, I have been having trouble with the screen resolution and scaling adjustment on my HDTV.

1. There is no 1280x720 option available, oddly, even though the driver keeps popping up with a warning saying that the optimal resolution is 1280x720 for my display.

2. The closest that I can get to is 1280x768 but I cannot scale the horizontal and vertical length. Apparently, only certain options can be scaled manually in this version.

3. If I go to the Custom Resolution screen and created 1280x720, it does not show up in any of the drop down menu.

What happens here? This is very confusing to use and it did not have this problem in Windows 7. Can someone direct me through this troubleshooting? Watching DVD in the current setting that I have is horrible. The picture is dim, pixelated and not sharp.

Can you provide your dxdiag for me please? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information) Just copy & paste it here, and I'll take a look at it.

Also, I need a copy of your Intel® Graphics and Media Control Panel™ report. (Open GMCP -> Options & Support -> Information Center -> (make sure System Information is the selected dropdown) -> Save as .txt file. Copy and paste that text here too for me.

Hi nic,

Sorry for the long delay. I got really frustrated with this as things got worse. I installed a brand new Samsung SSD and re-installing Windows 8 just gives me a blank screen on my monitor. Nothing I did would fix the problem so I quit and re-installed Windows 7. Everything works fine with Windows 7 so I figured I just let it go.

Just last week, I felt like trying Windows 8 again and, again, ran into the same problem with blank screen after installation. But this time, I enabled Remote Desktop before I installed the HD 2000 driver and I can access it through my local network from a laptop. Funny thing is that after I installed the display driver through Remote Desktop, it works. It still sometimes takes awhile for the display to show up from "monitor off" state but it is functioning.

However, the problem with the incomplete resolution display still persists. Intel Graphics Control Panel still does not show 1280x720 option even though the same version shows up on Windows 7.

Sorry just mounting frustration. I installed a new Samsung SSD and Windows 8 install would just give a blank screen. No matter what I did, I would not work. So I just decided to revert back to Windows 7.

Only recently I decided to give Windows 8 another try. But this time, I enabled Remote Desktop before installing the HD 2000 driver. The screen is blank once Windows 8 was installed but I could access it through Remote Desktop and installed the driver. And what do you know, it works! It sometimes still gives me blank screen coming out of "display off" but it is generally okay.

However, I still cannot see the 1280x720 option in Intel Graphics Control. I don't get it because it shows up in Windows 7.
