Microsoft* Windows* 8 comes with inbox drivers to natively support this USB 3.0 controller. In this case I suggest that you check directly with Microsoft* for possible compatibility issues with your drive and the inbox drivers they provide.

This is a problem known to many users of Windows 8 and Ivy Bridge based motherboards, including me, but Microsoft and Intel continue to point the finger at each other while leaving us with something less than we were promised.
Thank you for your answer!
I hope now that Intel starts to develop a Windows 8 driver.
No one could help me, whether Microsoft, Intel or Acer .
It's time for a solution !
The folks at plugable.com have devised a workaround that uses an Intel driver. Their instructions worked for me: Windows 8 and Intel USB 3.0 Host Controllers | Plugable.
It's also evidence that Intel is unwilling to put in a little extra effort to certify that particular driver for Windows 8 x64. Promising a feature but failing to deliver might be considered fraud, and I imagine one could assemble a nice class action if one so desired.
Hello everyone, i have the same problem with usb 3.0, my external hard drive work intermittent.
