HP EliteBook Folio 9470m - two external screens + notebook display configuration

Hey all,

I have a customer which we're looking at selling these notebooks with a dock, 2x screens outputting @ 1920x1080 resolution but I've been unable to get a three display configuration to work.

The notebooks have an Intel HD4000 graphics chip, and I have plugged a screen into the DisplayPort, and one in the VGA port, but not able to work. Also tried it in the dock and still no success.

Upon reading some articles on the internet they say it is supported but I can't see where I'm going wrong.

PC has Windows 8 installed and using driver version 7.17.10.2875.

I've posted this on the HP forum as well but I think it is an intel issue moreso than a vendor one.

Hi sam,

Can you provide me a copy of your dxdiag? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information) Just copy and paste it here and I'll take a look at it.

Thanks,

-Nic

Thanks for providing that information sam. I went ahead and checked with HP to verify the motherboard in use on this system, since a dxdiag won't show that - turns out you're running a QM77 (7-series) motherboard, which along with your HD 4000 processor means that you have everything needed to run 3 display.

Two things though; your BIOS is showing as "Default System BIOS" and not displaying a version number like it should. You may need to update your BIOS using the following OEM provided file; http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5271147&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=5271146&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4132 http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5271147&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=5271146&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4132

Secondly, your video driver is one of our Intel® generic drivers, which hasn't been tailored for your system the same way one directly from your OEM is. From the same link above, try using the provided 2843 driver.

After updating, try your configuration (1 DP + 1 VGA + laptop) without the dock first. Let me know how it goes!

Hi Nic

Thanks for trying, unfortunately

I have updated the bios the one you listed on the page, and re-downloaded the HP OEM drivers to no avail.

Interestingly enough, I have run dxdiag again, and the bios is still showing as 'default system bios'.

dxdiag log below.

We're having the same problem with the same setup (Windows 7 and Intel video driver 8.15.10.2778). I spoke with tier 2 support at HP and they claim that it is unsupported to have 3 active monitors with this laptop. But they also couldn't reference any official documentation that says it.

The Intel driver configuration shows all 3 monitors, but only lets me choose a Primary and a Secondary.

Any chance this would work with a DisplayPort splitter? Could the VGA be the problem?

Has any progress been made on this?

Alex
