I'm trying to access the "Advanced Mode" in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel but I am getting an error:
"GfxUI has stopped working"
I can get into Basic and Wizard modes just fine.
I am using Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (full RTM) with a 1st gen Core i3 with Intel HD Graphics. I have the latest driver installed from Windows Update. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a dump from the control panel's system information tab:

Hi Jesse,
I've been unsuccessful in reproducing this issue on either Win8* 32 or 64 bit. My suggestion to you is to completely uninstall the graphics drivers you're currently using, deleting the saved version of the file if possible - and then re-installing them via Windows Update.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
-Nic

Hello and thanks for your help Nic.
I have already uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled through Windows Update. I'm not sure what saved file version you are talking about. Where is it?

If it didn't prompt you for deleting old driver files when you updated your driver, then that shouldn't be a problem.
Can you provide me a copy of your dxdiag so that I can better try to replicate your system? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All information). Just copy & paste the info here and I'll take a look.
Thanks,
-Nic

Thanks for the info Jesse,
Did you happen to be running this computer in remote desktop when you took the dxdiag? Your display device is not showing up as Intel® HD graphics™ as it should be, and instead shows as RDPUDD Chained DD - which from what I can tell, is how it should show up if you are pulling reports remotely..

Thanks! Looks like your BIOS are out of date, and Dell* is recommending an upgrade. It would be a good idea too since you're running a new OS. Here's the download for your BIOS update; http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-14r?driverId=FXVYN&osCode=W764&fileId=2731102886 http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-14r?driverId=FXVYN&osCode=W764&fileId=2731102886
Let me know if there's any improvement after this, otherwise I'm going to try to reproduce your machine and see if I can get the issue to pop up on my end.
Thanks,
-Nic

I flashed the new BIOS today and it did not make a difference. I am still unable to get into Advanced mode.

The Dell* system you're using doesn't yet support Windows 8*. The drivers they have available are for Win7 only. You could be running into issues due to not using your OEM's driver. However, you'll need to switch back to Win7 to do that. Unless your OEM releases a Win8 driver for that system, you'll most likely continue experiencing these issues with the Advanced Mode of the GMCP.

Hi!
I have the same problem since I have installed the Intel Video Driver and Control Panel 8.15.10.2712 of 22 Jun 2012 (sp57420.exe) - latest driver recommended by HP.com to my Elitebook 8470p / OS.
I don't have SMSC Core Graphics Software installed.
Everything works fine except when I select "Options and Support" in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel: an error occurs and it is displayed the message "GfxUI has stopped working" and the Properties Panel must be closed.
Some details of my system:
- Notebook: HP Elitebook 8470p
- OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (service pack 1)
- I have Microsoft.NET framework 3.5.1 active (default by Windows 7)
- I have installed Microsoft.NET framework 4.5.1
Some troubleshooting tentatives (with no success) I have made:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the video driver;
- Uninstalled Microsoft.NET framework 4.5.1 and reinstalled the video driver;
Can anyone help me resolving this issue, please?
