Intel Centrino 6230 USB device not recognised

    Nick King

I've installed the Intel Centrino 6230 in to my wife's Toshiba laptop (it was intended for my HP laptop but because of their anal whitelist it won't boot... but that's another story).

The wifi works a treat, and I'm pulling in speeds of just over 100mb/s (http://www.speedtest.net/result/2328501761.png) connecting to my dual band router at 5GHz.

I understand this card also has Bluetooth capabilities and I think this is where my problem originates from.

I keep getting a warning balloon appear in the system tray saying "USB device not recognised" (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/208/intel62301.jpg/).

I've followed various supposed fixes, including removing the drivers, as you can see from the picture I've already done that.   As I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bit as soon as I restart the WLAN driver is automatically re-installed.

I've tried installing the drivers multiple times but I still get the error message.

I'm looking for one of 2 solutions.

      1. Get the device working properly - Bluetooth & Wifi.

      2. Disable the USB balloon, I can do this as a one off but as soon as I reboot it's back bugging me!

      Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Message was edited by: Nick King I've tried the card in my old Acer Aspire 5741Z running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.  I had to install the drivers from the Intel webpage but everything works fine.  In case it helps anyone I've added the system info from my wife's Toshiba and my old Acer. http://www.2shared.com/document/X4wQgPcr/ACER5741Z.html http://www.2shared.com/document/HT-AcZoW/ToshibaL655.html I'm stuck for ideas now!

Installing drivers will not help because Bluetooth failed USB enumeration for some reason.

Windows 8 comes with native Bluetooth stack. The stack is automatically installed and activated as soon as the USB device is recognized. Intel Bluetooth stack is a Profile extension pack which adds additional Bluetooth profiles (OPP, FTP, BIP, BPP and so on) to MS Bluetooth stack and it is optional to install.

Did you try disabling & enabling the Enhanced USB controllers just above the yellow bang (unknown USB device) to see the device re-enumerates OK?

IN order for this to work, please download the Bluetooth software from Toshiba(they have their own Bluetooth software and do not use the Bluetooth driver from Intel).

Once you install their software the Bluetooth device will show up and start working, I have verified on their latest Ultrabook.

I could not see your laptop make and model, but please download the driver from Toshiba site(the have driver for 6230 and 6235)

"USB device not recognized" error usually means one of the step in USB enumeration phase failed and Windows wasn't able to get its configuration (VID/PID etc). In this scenario, the PnP manager doesn't have enough information to load appropriate driver. So, installing Toshiba stack or any other stack is not going to help.

Based on my experience on Toshiba platforms, BT does not even show up/work(atleast on the Ultrabook Platforms), unless you actually instal the toshiba bluetooth software

I see. That's most likely due to Toshiba keeping the BT device in (disabled) RF kill by default. In this case, Windows will not even see the BT device so there will not be any USB enumeration. Toshiba must be installing special ACPI driver when their installer is installed to activate the device.

You can verify this by looking for their ACPI driver under System Devices in Device Manager after installing their stack.
