    Intel DX58SO motherboard memory support?

    aidle

From the online manual, I found DX58SO can only support 1.5V DDR3 Memory Module
but what about this (2GB Module x 3 channel) kit by OCZ

      OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 / 1600MHz / Intel Core i7 Edition / XMP Ready Series
      XMP Profile 1: 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 1.65*
      XMP Profile 2: 1800MHz 9-9-9-28 1.65V*

      or

      OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 / 1333MHz / Intel Core i7 Edition / XMP Ready Series
      XMP Profile 1: 1333MHz 8-8-8-20 1.6*
      XMP Profile 2: 1333MHz 7-7-7-20 1.6V*

          Hi there,

Basically, now on the new desktop board like the SmackOver DX58SO, the Memory controller has moved to the CPU.

          - The Optimized controller is more sensitive to voltage.
          - Voltages over 1.65 volts significantly reduce the life of the CPU.
          - The JEDEC spec only allows up to 1.5V. Memory run at default values will run at 1.5V

Everything is explained clearly on the website:
          http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dx58so/sb/cs-029865.htm

Unfortunately, it does not mention if 1.6V can be used, it just says less than 1.6V is advisable to use.

Nevertheless, it is best to use the 1.5V due to the fact it is also documented in the Technical Product Specifications and it wont void your warranty for the Board and CPU.

          Kind Regards,
          Aryan.
