Background: I have built acomputer using an ASROCK G41C-GS board [775 platform]with a E6850 cpu, in a flat desktop case. I have added fans and reversed the power supply, by modifying the case.
However the whole system still runs very hot.
So I want to install a low profile Scythe cpu cooler.
To do so, I will have to cutoff the row of aluminium fins closest to the cpu on the G41 chipset heatsink.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of how this will affect the G41 performance?
Would using a discreet low level graphics card reduce the heat output of the G41
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
According to Intel spec Intel® 4 Series Chipset Family Datasheet G41 have a TDP of 25 W, just in bounds of passive cooling capabilities, so any heat sink reduction may result in chip death.
For graphics card - even useless piece of crap like NVIDIA GeForce 210 have a TDP of 30-40W, so it will not help you to make PC a bit chiller.
