Several optimizations to reduce the system power consumption have been added in this driver. These optimizations might result in minor performance drop in some games while yielding power savings. The user can choose to override these power optimizations by selecting the "Maximum Performance" power mode in Intel control panel or "High Performance" mode in the Windows power setting.

That's a strange claim in the release notes. First of all there is no power plan option for a desktop system and secondly it dropped down on a desktp system as well in several games (have a look to my test). I guess the ridiculous HL2 and Far Cry 2 drop is caused by the buggy power optimization feature which has some really bad side effect there. There is no need for saving 0,5-0,8 watts on a 77W deskop machine. Really strange thing.

YMMV

I, for example, would be willing to sacrifice any/all 3d capabilities for a perfect low power media playback.

IMHO, If you're gaming, get yourself a real gfx card.

yamcenutzer, 1W is nothing for a desktop system under load. On a Notebook it might be a different story since it might result in a slightly longer battery life. If you don't care about performance feel happy. At least there should be an option to disable this power saving stuff, it's not worth it. In some games it just doesn't work. There is no power save option on a desktop machine, I guess it already runs on maximum performance. Performance decreased however in many games.

Hi Yups,

The same driver used for the Intel® HD Graphics 3000/2000 & 4000/2500 (and HD Graphics) is used on both laptops as well as desktops. The power saving features are targeted at laptops.

From my own personal experience though as a desktop user, there are power settings - and for some of us they were set by default to 'balanced' or 'power saver'. I know I had to manually change mine to high performance when I was trying to figure out why so many of my CPU cores were constantly parked.

Thanks,

-Nic

Right, the release notes do say "or High Performance," so on Desktop systems for whatever reason, the control for this is relegated to Windows, where on laptops it's in Intel's CP.

Whatever the reason for that, I'm wondering which setting in Windows' Power Options, specifically Advanced Settings, actually pertains to this. I know that "High performance" changes the "Processor power management" section so that the "Minimum processor state" is always 100%, as opposed to 5% in "Balanced," so I'm guessing that's it. I don't think this disables SpeedStep entirely (not something I want to do), but it's related.

There is no Power setting for Intel HD graphics on a desktop. I have both Desktop and Notebook and know how it looks. Maybe you refer to the windows energy scheme, I changed this from balanced to max performance but there was no difference. On a Notebook I have a IGP tab where I can choose between balance, max performance, low performance. I guess a desktop uses automatically max performance for the IGP because 1w more or less doesn't matter there.

I just found another game with serious performance issues:

"Gothic 3, Forsaken Gods" slows down to a crawl with 2867 on a Core i7 3770.

Now, nobody with the right mind would bother to play this game anyway, but still...

On the bright side, BF2 is now free from visual artifacts with 2867.

So, it seems like 2867 is sort of a "mixed bag".

Did you test 15.26 and compared to 15.28?

I am currently using

15.28.7.64.2867

under Windows 7 SP1 64 on a 24" screen with 1900x1200 resolution. Before that, I used

15.26.12.64.2761.

well, i've just wasted my time downloading this new drivers because this driver ruined lot of my games textures like the old beta drivers.and cinebench bencmark goes down from 9 to 8 fps. looks like i am gonna stuck with the old 2761 drivers until my new graphic card arrived.

BTW, I know this has been asked here before, but the answers are ....

In the previous drop 2867 the setup.exe didn't install on DH77EB ('system does not meet requirements...'),

The setup.exe taken from the zip did install though.

So once again, what exactly is the difference between the drivers referenced on the desktop boards download (where currently still 2761 is listed as latest) and the really generic ones from graphics downloads. Is it only a matter of the entries in the inf sections, or are they really changed in some manner to take the appropriate board specifics into acount. And I mean the Intel boards here, the other ones are different no doubt.

Hi Robert!

Let me take the opportunity to report a few bugs which are still present.

The first three were not present with build 2761:

1. Bioshock 2 crashes immediately at the beginning of a new level.

I tested "Protector Trials", for that matter.

Bioshock 2 ingame options:

Shadow Maps: on

High Detail Post Processing: on

High Detail Shaders: on

Real Time Reflections: on

Distortion: on

Force Global Lighting: on

Direct X 10 Detail Surfaces: on

Texture Details: High

2. Tomb Raider- Anniversary:

Lara shows some bluish shimmer every now and then within the game menu,

say, every few seconds for a fraction of a second.

3. Gothic 3 - Forsaken Gods is incredibly slow with build 2867 and 2875. Slow means

frame rates in the low single digits. With build 2761 the game is actually playable.

The interesting thing here is that quality settings have very little effect on performance,

that is, even the lowest setting possible is slower with 2875 than the setting "high" with

2761.

4. HDR does not work with Oblivion. Now that's not actually a new bug, it never worked.

The problem here is that quality settings above "medium", which are actually playable on

a Sandy Bride IGP, automatically choose HDR over Bloom. For those who don't know

about the HDR issue it then seems like Oblivion does not run altogether on an Intel IGP.

The PC configuration I tested on:

Intel DH67GD

Intel Core i7 2600K

8GB DDR3 1333

Windows 7 64 SP1

9.17.10.2875 ("Balanced")

Screen Resolution 1280x1024

Hope that helps to resolve some of these issues.
